Daily Word: Bad Behavior and Attitude are Before a Fall
Proverbs 16:18 KJV “Pride goes before destruction, and an haughty spirit before a fall.”
What we say, do, and how we live should always line up with the Word of God. Jesus Christ, our example of love and truth, shows us how to live in a way that honors God and brings peace to those around us. When we follow Him, we find a truth that changes hearts, leading us to treat others with kindness and respect.
In Ephesians 4:29-32, the Bible teaches us to avoid harmful words, bitterness, anger, and to instead be kind, forgiving, and tenderhearted. This is how we reflect God’s love.
We admire people who are kind and truthful. We especially appreciate those who keep a good attitude, even when they’re going through hard times. Many people hide their own pain to keep from complaining, showing strength that inspires others. Yet, sometimes, it can be hard to keep a good attitude, especially when we are dealing with insecurities or fears.
Science tells us that many elderly parents who live with their adult children struggle with insecurities as they grow older. These insecurities can cause negative attitudes, and sometimes these behaviors create stress for their families. Some elderly parents may feel jealousy, pride, or even fear, which can lead to harsh words or actions that can hurt others. This is not unusual; we all struggle with emotions like fear, pride, or embarrassment at times.
Regardless of our age or situation, we must be careful about how we act and speak. The Bible encourages us to focus on words that bring grace and healing to others. Ephesians 4:29 reminds us to “let no corrupt communication proceed out of your mouth, but that which is good to the use of edifying.” This means our words should lift up, not tear down. When we let go of bitterness and anger, and choose kindness, we reflect God’s love.
Living according to God’s Word means checking our attitudes and actions daily. When we choose words and actions that reflect love and truth, we bring peace to those around us and honor God in everything we do. So let’s remember to speak with kindness, be slow to anger, and forgive each other, just as God has forgiven us through Christ.
Reflection Question:
How can we reflect God’s love and truth in our words and actions, even when faced with difficult situations?
