Daily Word: Sin and Global Climate
Sin affects not only our relationship with God but also the world around us, including the environment. When we sin, we often prioritize our desires over God’s creation, leading to actions that harm the environment.
In Romans 8:22 KJV, it says, “For we know that the whole creation groaneth and travaileth in pain together until now.” This verse illustrates that creation suffers because of sin, including the impact on the climate.
Sin affects the climate is through greed and selfishness. When we prioritize our own comfort and wealth over the well-being of the planet, we contribute to environmental degradation.
Genesis 1:26 KJV “And God said, Let us make man in our image, after our likeness: and let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over the cattle, and over all the earth, and over every creeping thing that creepeth upon the earth.”
- Cutting Down Too Many Trees: When people cut down too many trees for things like building houses or making paper, it’s called deforestation. This is bad because trees help clean the air, and when we cut them down, there’s more pollution in the air, which can make the earth warmer.
- Making Too Much Pollution: Pollution is when harmful things get into the air, water, or ground. Things like cars, factories, and trash can make pollution. Pollution can make the earth’s climate change by making it warmer.
- Using Too Much Stuff: When we use too much stuff, like buying things we don’t really need or wasting food, it can hurt the environment. This is because making and throwing away stuff can create pollution and make the earth’s climate change.

In James 5:1-3, it says, “Go to now, ye rich men, weep and howl for your miseries that shall come upon you. Your riches are corrupted, and your garments are moth-eaten. Your gold and silver is cankered, and the rust of them shall be a witness against you, and shall eat your flesh as it were fire.” This passage warns against the destructive nature of greed and highlights the consequences of our actions on the world around us.
Global climate change is a pressing issue that requires us to reflect on our actions and strive to be better stewards of God’s creation. By living according to God’s will and considering the impact of our choices on the environment, we can work towards a more sustainable future.
It’s important to remember that even small actions, like reducing waste and conserving energy, can make a difference in caring for the planet and combating the effects of sin on the global climate.
