Button Your Words: How Talking Too Much Can Cause Trouble
Have you ever built a sandcastle on the beach, carefully shaping towers and moats, only to have a big wave come crashing in and wash it all away? Words can be like that, too. Sometimes, if we say them too quickly or without thinking, they can cause big problems, just like waves sinking a ship.
That’s what the saying “Loose lips sink ships” means. It reminds us that talking too much, especially when we’re angry or upset, can lead to big trouble. In the Bible, there’s a verse that says something similar: “Let every man be swift to hear, slow to speak, slow to wrath” (James 1:19 KJV).
Just like a captain needs to be careful steering a ship through stormy seas, we need to be careful about what we say when things are rough.
Ephesians 4:29 KJV “Let no corrupt communication proceed out of your mouth, but that which is good to the use of edifying, that it may minister grace unto the hearers.”
James 1:19 KJV “Wherefore, my beloved brethren, let every man be swift to hear, slow to speak, slow to wrath:”
Proverbs 21:23 KJV “Whoso keepeth his mouth and his tongue keepeth his soul from troubles.”
Isaiah 28:26 KJV “For his God doth instruct him to discretion, and doth teach him.”
