Hello ePrayer Circle Tribe,

As we step into 2024, I’m excited to explore different themes each month, drawing inspiration from my prayer life. This month, our focus is on transforming our conversations in five key aspects. Living consciously is crucial for our evolution, regardless of age.

Reflecting on the saying, “If it was not for the Grace of God, there go I,” reminds us of the transformative power of faith. Testimonies play a vital role in our spiritual journey, empowering us to be better individuals. Respecting and learning from the elderly helps us mature through life’s various stages.

Recognizing the importance of role models, we should strive to be one in every phase of our lives. Your beliefs shape your actions, influencing the consequences and ultimately determining your future. However, messy conversations can hinder setting positive examples for others.

My recent experience, the day after Christmas, highlighted the significance of believers allowing the light of The Holy Spirit to bring us into a conscious demeanor, even when we do not feel like it. It reminded me of the importance of staying prayed up, protecting our spirits, and adhering to principles with love.  We cannot do it alone.

Proverbs 15:1 KJV says, “A soft answer turneth away wrath: but grievous words stir up anger.”

My testimony.  The first day after Christmas, I went to a large chain grocery store but before I left home, as always, I prayed for protection and put on my wooden crucifixion necklace.  It’s serious out here.

I was in a long checkout line and decided to get one more item.  I left my buggy in line. I went down an aisle to grab an item I saw.  I returned to find someone had pushed my buggy aside and taken my place in line. It was still at least five people in front of the last customer in line.  I got my buggy and got behind her. The customer in front of me said, “I did not move your buggy”. I said, “ok”.

I said under my breath, “People need to stop.” not at her but just agitated because I was gone for maybe 15 seconds. She was the only new person in line but I was not sure so I did not accuse her.  It wasn’t that serious.   “The hit dog will holler.”   She started loud-talking me and saying fighting words, “I didn’t know what I was talking about”.

I knew then she did it.  Then, I got mad. I thought she was bullying me even though I wasn’t talking to her because she did not move it but if she moved it then I was talking to her and told her that.  I put my hand on my hip and said, ” I can say whatever I want, this is a free country.  You said you didn’t move it, so what’s the deal?”

I’m thinking to myself, so now you can’t get agitated and mumble a few words to yourself without getting called out and possibly jumped on?  Not going into 2024.

She said with her back to me, “I’m not going to let you bother me today”.   I told her very nicely, “Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year to You too”.  What transpired next was unexpected. Then she turned halfway around to the cashier and smiled and chuckled.

The cashier smiled and the guy behind me laughed. We were both in our early sixties. I glimpsed a light in her on the side of her face as she smiled.  The cashier rang her up. She gave the cashier an EBT card. She had food and wine. The cashier asked her for ID.

She said she did not have ID and would have to go to the car and get it. She was visibly over 40, the cashier could have given it to her but she told her she had to have ID. At, this point, I don’t think the EBT card was hers. The cashier asked if I had an ID.  I said No. The lady told the cashier smiling, “Oh she mad at me so”.

I told the customer, I am not mad at you, calmly and with a smile but with no other explanation. The cashier started to ring me up and asked me if I wanted to bag it together.  I said, “No. I don’t know her”.  The clerk looked surprised. She thought we came together.

The customer got her bag. She left the wine.  I did not offer my ID because I do not buy alcohol.  Alcohol is legal but I don’t drink it unless it is communion. Sometimes it’s grape juice.  My decision had nothing to do with her. Again, jumping to conclusions is messy.

The point I am making is that you never know what will pop off just going to a local store. Stay prayed up. Protect your spirit and at the same time stick to your principles but do it with love and kindness.

I may wear a cross. I try to treat everyone well but remember, I am a human being and so are you. The thought that the cashier thought we were together after the argument, warmed my heart.  We were sisters in Christ acting up. The Lord let me see the light in her. She smiled and it revealed she was a child of God without a cross. The conversation could have gone a whole different way.

I stood my ground with her but at the same time recognized that she was of the light, my sister in Christ, regardless of what she was doing with that EBT card. There are many legitimate reasons for her using it.  Alcohol is legal and wine is not against God’s command unless you are a wino.

1 Timothy 5:22-23KJV   22Lay hands suddenly on no man, neither be partaker of other men’s sins: keep thyself pure. 23Drink no longer water{sic. only}, but use a little wine for thy stomach’s sake and thine often infirmities.

It ended on a light foot. If I had been in my twenties, I would have said something to win that petty argument: You don’t need that alcohol. You acting crazy enough. You know you got an ID. Is that your card? Trying to talk about me. Ridiculous.

None of those things were my business. Now, over 60, Even tho I was not going to get punked out, I was not interested in elevating a fight and neither was she. We were elevated by our belief in Jesus Christ, age, and experience which allowed the Holy Spirit, the Spirit of God to step in with the light as a reminder of that.

In moments of heightened emotions, being children of the light allows God’s spirit to renew our minds, spirits, and souls anytime and anywhere.

This situation showed that everyday moments can be surprising. It taught us that it’s important to be aware of the goodness in ourselves and others by fostering tolerance and honoring that divine spark in each person. It emphasized the need to stay sensitive to the light within ourselves and others with praise and prayer to God in Jesus’ name.

Ephesians 4:29 KJV reinforces the power of our words, “Let no corrupt communication proceed out of your mouth, but that which is good to the use of edifying, that it may minister grace unto the hearers.”

Finally, Psalms 121:2-3,5 KJV reassures us of divine protection and guidance: “My help cometh from the LORD, which made heaven and earth. He will not suffer thy foot to be moved: he that keepeth thee will not slumber. The LORD is thy keeper: the LORD is thy shade upon thy right hand.”

May our prayers lead us to change and, in turn, transform our conversations with grace and wisdom.
