The Gospel consists of the four books in the New Testament that gives the teachings of Jesus Christ, written by John, Luke, Mark, and Matthew.

Overview of the Gospel of Matthew:

Matthew’s name means “Gift of the Lord”, a tax collector who left everything to follow Jesus Christ as an apostle (disciple).  His former name was Levi, the tax collector.  Matthew wrote the Gospel of Matthew. He wrote it for people who converted from Judaism. This Gospel demonstrates that Jesus Christ is the King and Messiah of Israel.  His works support that Jesus Christ is the fulfillment of all of the old testament prophecies of the coming of the Messiah.

“This book describes Jesus’s genealogy, his miraculous birth and childhood, his baptism and temptation, his ministry of healing and preaching, and finally his crucifixion and resurrection. The resurrected Jesus commissions his Apostles to “go and make disciples of all nations.”  Source: Retrieved from the internet on 11/16/2021 from The New World Encyclopedia.  https://www.newworldencyclopedia.org/entry/Gospel_of_Matthew

Summary of  lesson three and lesson four

Chapter Three

John the Baptist declared the seed of Abraham, promised heirs to the Kingdom of God, are Abraham’s seed by faith and repentance, not biological descendants.  John 8:37 36If the Son, therefore, shall make you free, ye shall be free indeed. 37I know that ye are Abraham’s seed, but ye seek to kill me because my word hath no place in you. 38I speak that which I have seen with my Father: and ye do that which ye have seen with your father. 39They answered and said unto him, Abraham is our father. Jesus saith unto them, If ye were Abraham’s children, ye would do the works of Abraham. 40But now ye seek to kill me, a man that hath told you the truth, which I have heard of God: this did not Abraham.

Galatians 3:26-29  Galatians chapter 3 verses:26 through 29. King James Version. 26 For ye are all the children of God by faith in Christ Jesus. 27 For as many of you as have been baptized into Christ have put on Christ. 28 There is neither Jew nor Greek, there is neither bond nor free, there is neither male nor female: for ye are all one in Christ Jesus. 29And if ye be Christ’s, then are ye Abraham’s seed, and heirs according to the promise.

Matthew 3:10  “And now also the ax is laid unto the root of the trees: therefore every tree which bringeth not forth good fruit is hewn down, and cast into the fire.” He spoke to them about the ax is already at the root of the tree. This parable means irreversible judgment. If a person does not bear good fruit – bring others to the faith they are not considered good servants of the Lord.

Note: Jesus taught everyone (noblemen, tax collectors, and prostitutes among other sinners) who would hear and accept salvation. Then told them to tell others, Thus bearing fruit when others convert.  Your faith with repentance will generate fruit because the word of God does not come in word only but with power. 1 Corinthians 4:20 KJV  “For the kingdom of God is not in word, but in power.”

Jesus was baptized by John the Baptist.  John said he was not worth tying Jesus shoes.  John the Baptist baptized people with water unto repentance. Matthew 3:11  “I indeed baptize you with water unto repentance: but he that cometh after me is mightier than I, whose shoes I am not worthy to bear: he shall baptize you with the Holy Ghost, and with fire:”

When Jesus asked to be baptized by him, John the Baptist stood in awe.  Jesus told him all righteousness must be filled.  Jesus set an example of everything he taught.  The baptism symbolizes being washed of all sins and unholy attachments by the Holy Spirit as well as the symbolism of participating in the death and risen life of Jesus Christ.

Chapter Four

Jesus went into the wildness where he fasted and prayed for 40 days and 40 nights. Afterward, he was hungry.  Satan came to Jesus and asked him to prove that he was the Son of God by turning stones into bread, jumping off a cliff to see if the angels would catch him, and lastly,  Satan offered Jesus the whole world if he would bow down to him. Jesus answered each time with scripture. He did not use a miracle just the Word of God. Satan left him.

Note: It should be noted that Satan knows the bible well as he quotes it to Jesus. This demonstrates that many will come as false prophets and not be with God.  It is important to learn the bible for yourself so when you are tempted you will be able to speak the “Word of God” and have victory in Jesus Christ.  You will know the will of God and his timing.   Matthew 4:4  “But he answered and said, It is written, “Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceeds out of the mouth of God.”

Satan offered Jesus the whole world. Before Jesus’ was born in the flesh, his deity was witnessed by John the Baptist.  Jesus is the Word that became flesh.  All things were made by him.  Therefore, Jesus is the creator of the world – God.  The Word that became flesh.  In the flesh, born of a woman (begotten), the Son of God.

John 1: 3-5KJV  1In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. 2The same was in the beginning with God.  3All things were made by him, and without him was not anything made that was made. 4In him was life, and the life was the light of men. 5And the light shineth in darkness; and the darkness comprehended it not.   John 1:14  “And the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us, (and we beheld his glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father,) full of grace and truth.”

Colossians 2: 8-10 KJV  8Beware lest any man spoils you through philosophy and vain deceit, after the tradition of men, after the rudiments of the world, and not after Christ. 9For in him dwelleth all the fulness of the Godhead bodily. 10And ye are complete in him, which is the head of all principality and power:

Satan did not own what he was offering.  He will take credit for God’s work and he will offer what he does not own.   Isaiah 54:5  “For thy Maker is your husband; the LORD of hosts is his name; and thy Redeemer the Holy One of Israel; The God of the whole earth shall he be called.”

Jesus fulfills another prophecy:   Jesus heard that John the Baptist was put in prison.  Jesus left Galilee and traveled until he came to Capernaum, which is upon the sea coast, in the borders of Zabulon and Nephthalim and preached.  Thus fulfilling another prophecy by  Esaias, that the Messiah (light) would come into   Matthew 4:15-16 KJV   15″ the land of Zabulon, and the land of Nephthalim, by the way of the sea, beyond Jordan, Galilee of the Gentiles. 16 “The people which sat in darkness saw a great light, and to them which sat in the region and shadow of death light is sprung up.”  17“From that time Jesus began to preach, and to say, Repent: for the kingdom of heaven is at hand.”

Note:  When you leave this earth, that is the end of the world for YOU.  Be ready so you don’t have to get ready.  Many cities and nations fell with no survivors, it was not the end of the world but it was for the ones that left here, whether it is one person or 50,000 at one time.

Jesus calls Peter and Andrew, James and John, they were all fishermen.  Matthew 4:19  “And he saith unto them, Follow me, and I will make you fishers of men.

Jesus heals the sick.  Matthew 4:23-24KJV   23And Jesus went about all Galilee, teaching in their synagogues, and preaching the gospel of the kingdom, and healing all manner of sickness and all manner of disease among the people. 24And his fame went throughout all Syria: and they brought unto him all sick people that were taken with divers diseases and torments, and those which were possessed with devils, and those which were lunatic, and those that had the palsy; and he healed them.

Call to salvation

John 3:16  “For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.

Romans 10:9-10  9That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved. 10For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness, and with the mouth, confession is made unto salvation

John 3:5-6  5Jesus answered, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born of water and of the Spirit, he cannot enter into the kingdom of God. 6That which is born of the flesh is flesh, and that which is born of the Spirit is the Spirit.
