Serving Others: The Greatest Adventure

Have you ever helped someone without expecting anything in return? Maybe you held the door for someone carrying groceries, or picked up trash in your neighborhood. Did it make you feel good inside? That’s the magic of service!

Being of service means using your time, talents, or even a simple smile to help others. It’s like going on an adventure, except instead of exploring mountains or jungles, you’re exploring the kindness within yourself. And guess what? This adventure is open to everyone, even you!

The Two Keys to Kindness: Jesus’ Special Instructions

Remember that super smart and kind teacher named Jesus? He knew that service was the key to a happy life. In fact, he gave us two special instructions to follow:

First, he said to love God with all our hearts, minds, and souls (Matthew 6:2). This means appreciating everything good in the world, like sunshine, laughter, and, of course, helping others. It’s like saying “thank you” to the universe for all the amazing things around us.

Second, Jesus said to love our neighbors as ourselves (Luke 10:27). This means treating everyone with kindness, just like we want to be treated. It could be helping a classmate with their homework, offering a seat to someone on the bus, or simply sharing a smile with a stranger.    These two instructions are like a treasure map, leading us to the land of happiness and making the world a brighter place.

The Story of Mary and Martha: A Lesson in Service

Remember Mary and Martha, the two sisters who loved Jesus? In the story of John 12:3, Mary showed her love by anointing Jesus’ feet with expensive perfume. Martha, on the other hand, was busy preparing a big meal.

Jesus didn’t scold Martha for being busy, but he gently reminded her that Mary had chosen the better part: serving with love. He knew that true happiness comes from giving, not just getting.

Small Acts, Big Impact: Your Superpower of Service!

Think of service as your personal superpower! It might not involve flying or shooting lasers, but it can be just as powerful. Picking up a piece of trash makes your street cleaner. Helping a friend with their shoelaces makes them feel happy. Smiling at someone having a bad day can brighten their whole afternoon.

These tiny acts of service, like tiny seeds, can grow into big things. They can make your community stronger, friendships deeper, and the world a little bit kinder.

So, remember, every time you help someone, you’re living out Jesus’ teachings and spreading the magic of service. You’re being the best version of yourself, making the world a better place, and having an adventure all at the same time! Now, go out there and use your superpower!

But remember what Jesus said in Matthew 6:2: “Beware of practicing your righteousness before other people in order to be seen by them, for then you will have no reward from your Father who is in heaven.”

True service comes from the heart, not for show. It’s about making a difference, not getting attention. So let your kindness shine through your actions, not your words. And trust that the greatest reward will come from within, knowing you’ve made the world a little brighter, one small act at a time.

Let us embrace the message of John 4:21-24 and Ephesians 4:5, cultivating a spirit of unity and genuine worship that transcends cultural barriers and unites us in our faith in Jesus Christ.

CALL TO SALVATION:

John 3:16  “For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.

Romans 10:9-10  9That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in your heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved. 10For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness, and with the mouth, confession is made unto salvation.

John 3:5-6  5Jesus answered, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born of water and of the Spirit, he cannot enter into the kingdom of God. 6 That which is born of the flesh is flesh, and that which is born of the Spirit is the Spirit.
