Overview of The Gospel of Luke:
Apostle Luke, a Gentile and a physician, wrote this Gospel and the Book of Acts. Luke’s work is assumed to be written in AD 60-62 during the time disciple Paul was in jail. His works were dedicated to Theophilus, a Roman dignitary. Luke gives an ordered account of the events of Jesus’s life but not necessarily in order. His primary research was eyewitnesses, disciples, and the inspiration of the Holy Spirit.
Luke knew the disciples personally. He traveled with Paul most of the time. However, he also used other disciples’ work in his research, such as Mark, as a lot of his work included the Gospel of Mark. However, this Gospel gives many accounts of Jesus’s healing ministry because Luke was a physician himself.
Luke alone reported unusual circumstances surrounding the birth of John the Baptist and the annunciation of Mary. He emphasized the central role of women, children, Gentiles, Samaritans, rich, sinners, and outcasts in the life and ministry of Jesus Christ. Luke proposed to narrate the ministry of Jesus Christ: Jesus Christ’s mission dedicated to the saving of sinners and his progression to the cross to become Savior of the World.

45 Days to Read the Gospel Challenge. The Gospel of Luke Chapter Three – The Ministry of John the Baptist- A Baptism of Repentance of Sins
Overview of Chapter Three
The word of God came unto John, the son of Zacharias, in the wilderness. John came into Jordan, preaching the baptism of repentance for the remission of sins. Luke 3: 4-6 4As it is written in the book of the words of Esaias the prophet, saying, The voice of one crying in the wilderness. Prepare ye the way of the Lord, make his paths straight.
Luke 3: 5-5Every valley shall be filled, and every mountain and hill shall be brought low, and the crooked shall be made straight, and the rough ways shall be made smooth; Luke 3: 6And all flesh shall see the salvation of God. John baptizes Jesus and wonder happens. The heavens open up, the holy spirit comes down as a dove and a voice is heard, Luke 3: 22-23 , 22And the Holy Ghost descended in a bodily shape like a dove upon him, and a voice came from heaven, which said, Thou art my beloved Son; in thee I am well pleased. Matthew 3:15 Jesus is baptized to show the Glory of God and to fulfill all righteousness. Usually, “ fulfill, is referring to the Old Testament prophecies and/or scripture.
Luke mentions, John the Baptist being put in prison, however, that comes much later. John meets his death by being beheaded. Remember, some of Luke’s work is not in chronicle order.
Note: According to biblical scholars, 30 years of age is the age most persons during that time went into prophecy. Jesus’ physical heritage came from Mary, his mother, which is the line of David. Joseph, Mary’s husband, is the son of Heli but also from the line of David.

Matthew 35:35-39 KJV 35Heaven and earth shall pass away, but my words shall not pass away. 36But of that day and hour knoweth no man, no, not the angels of heaven, but my Father only. 37But as the days of Noe {Noah} were, so shall also the coming of the Son of man be. 38For as in the days that were before the flood they were eating and drinking, marrying and giving in marriage, until the day that Noe entered into the ark, 39And knew not until the flood came, and took them all away; so shall also the coming of the Son of man be.
