To Listen to God is to Live a Conscious and Present life
John 10:10 “The thief cometh not, but for to steal, and to kill, and to destroy: I am come that they might have life, and that they might have it more abundantly.”
There is an old saying “if you hear something three times, that is a confirmation.” In other words, scientists say we hear only 75% of what is said. The rest passes us by. The more you concentrate on something, the more you are aware of any information concerning that. For example, if you buy a car. You all of a sudden notice how many of the same model cars pass you on the street. Before, you did not notice that type of car as much.
When we stay connected to God or “stay prayed up”, we are aware of things that he brings to our attention. Some call it a sixth sense but it is the Holy Spirit guiding us so we can be protected and have a better life – live life and live it more abundantly. I personally, remember times I was distracted while trying to do something or I tried to get to a certain place on time and so many interruptions came up that I knew that was God trying to tell me something. Well, I listen and canceled what I was doing. I was always glad later that I did cancel for one reason or another.
Another example, you may hear something on TV, read about the same thing and later it comes up in a conversation, all on the same day. Most people refer to this experience as a “confirmation”. The spiritual guidance may not be in answer to your prayer but someone else’s prayer for you. It’s important to pray for others as well as yourself. Surround yourself with people who pray.
Not only is it important to pray to God, praise God, meditate on scripture and study the bible but LISTEN to God when he speaks in your life. As quoted by Mac Davis, 1958 ” You got to stop and smell the roses.” Don’t get so busy that you don’t enjoy what you have. Don’t ignore the warning signs in order to live a conscious and present life. Be aware of your surroundings. Take the Lord with you everywhere you go so he can guide you.
