Daily Word: Spiritual Housecleaning: Checking Our Hearts and Lives
Spiritual housecleaning is about looking at our hearts and actions and asking, “Am I truly living by God’s Word?” Just as we clean our homes, we must also take time to check our spiritual lives. Are we growing in God’s truth? Are we humble in our faith, or do we think self-righteously? Worse, are we acting like hypocrites by saying one thing and doing another? These are tough but important questions for every believer.
Romans 5:1-6 (KJV) reminds us that we are justified by faith in Jesus Christ, not by anything we can do on our own. This means we must rely on God and not our own “goodness” to save us. Being a Christian is about following Jesus with a true heart, not just looking “religious” on the outside. God sees our hearts, and He knows if we are sincere in our faith or just going through the motions. Our walk with God should be real, filled with love and truth.
In 1 Corinthians 2:4-5 (KJV), Paul says “That your faith should not stand in the wisdom of men, but in the power of God.” This message was not about fancy words but the power of God. This shows us that being a believer is not about impressing others but trusting in God’s power. Spiritual housecleaning means asking ourselves if we are trusting in God or trying to look good to others. Are we following His Word and growing closer to Him, or are we just pretending?
It’s easy to fall into habits of pride or hypocrisy, but God calls us to be honest and humble. When we let God show us areas we need to change, He can help us grow. Spiritual housecleaning helps us get rid of attitudes and actions that don’t honor God. This way, we make room for more love, peace, and faith.
As we check our spiritual lives, let’s remember to rely on God’s power. This keeps us humble, honest, and growing in Him. Let’s keep our spiritual house clean and let God’s light shine through us.
Reflection Question:
Am I trusting in God’s power and love, or am I focused on just looking good to others?
