Unlock the Power of Fellowship: Building a Relationship with Jesus Through Prayer and Devotion

Spending time with Jesus is essential for developing a deep and meaningful relationship with Him. Just as in any friendship, a close bond requires time, communication, and attention. As believers, we are called to prioritize fellowship with Jesus through prayer, devotion, and studying His Word. This is how we strengthen our faith, grow spiritually, and experience the supernatural power God has reserved for us.

The enemy, however, also seeks relationships, leading people away from God. It’s often said that the “witching hour” at 3 a.m. is a time when covenants and those in the occult come together to worship Satan and cast spells. These individuals spend hours in rituals, cultivating relationships with evil spirits. While they invest time in these destructive practices, Christians should take note and be just as diligent in pursuing a relationship with God. Our connection to Jesus unlocks divine power, protection, and blessings.

Jesus makes it clear in Matthew 7:21-23 that not everyone who claims to know Him will enter the Kingdom of Heaven. He says, “I never knew you: depart from me, ye that work iniquity.” This emphasizes the importance of truly knowing Jesus and spending time in His presence. Being a Christian is not just about outward actions; it is about cultivating an intimate relationship with the Lord. When we prioritize time with Him, we align our hearts with His will.

A beautiful example of prioritizing fellowship with Jesus can be found in the story of Mary and Martha  Luke 10:38-42 KJV. While Martha was busy with the tasks of the day, Mary chose to sit at Jesus’ feet and listen attentively to His words. Jesus approved of Mary’s choice, showing that spending time with Him is far more important than being distracted by the demands of life.

Like Mary, who chose to be present with Jesus instead of being distracted by the tasks around her, we, too, are invited to draw closer to Him through prayer and praise. It’s through this time that we cultivate a deeper understanding of His love for us and experience His peace.

To grow in faith, we must devote time daily to prayer, worship, and studying the Bible. This allows us to enter God’s presence and understand His purpose for our lives. In this fast-paced world, it’s easy to be consumed by distractions, but God calls us to seek Him first. When we put Jesus at the center of our lives, we experience His love, guidance, and the peace that surpasses all understanding.

Here are three action steps to develop a closer relationship with God:

  1. Daily Bible Reading: Start by dedicating time each day to read the Bible. It’s through His Word that we learn about God’s character, His promises, and His will for our lives. You don’t have to read large portions at once; begin with small passages and meditate on them. Let scriptures like Psalm 119:105 guide you: “Thy word is a lamp unto my feet, and a light unto my path.”
  2. Praying and Praising God: Spend time in prayer and praise daily. Prayer is a conversation with God, where you can express your thoughts, worries, and gratitude. Praise shifts your focus to God’s goodness and power, inviting His presence into your life. As Philippians 4:6 says, “In every thing by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known unto God.”
  3. Trusting the Holy Spirit in Private Conversations: Open your heart and have personal conversations with God through the Holy Spirit. Trust that He hears you, even in moments of doubt or struggle. Listen for His guidance, as He is always with you, providing wisdom and comfort. Romans 8:26 reminds us that “the Spirit also helped our infirmities…the Spirit itself make intercession for us.”

By following these steps, you will develop a deeper relationship with God and experience His presence more profoundly in your daily life.

Romans 10:9-10  9That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved. 10For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness, and with the mouth, confession is made unto salvation
