The Bible makes it clear that we should seek God for guidance, not the dead or any form of false spiritual practices. Isaiah 8:19 (KJV) warns, “And when they shall say unto you, Seek unto them that have familiar spirits, and unto wizards that peep and mutter: should not a people seek unto their God? for the living to the dead?”
This scripture tells us to trust God, not mediums or sorcery, for our counsel. God is the source of all truth and guidance, and we should seek Him for wisdom and understanding.
Isaiah 9:6-7 (KJV) reminds us that Jesus is predestined to be our counselor. “For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given… and his name shall be called Wonderful, Counsellor, The mighty God, The everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace.” Jesus, knowing all things, even told His disciples that His time had come for crucifixion (John 12:23 KJV). He was not surprised by future events—He knew them and was prepared to fulfill God’s plan.
Jesus knows the future because He is one with the Father. He guides us perfectly, and His counsel is based on God’s divine knowledge of all things. He answers the prayers of those who seek Him in faith, bringing change and hope when we trust in His will. Proverbs 3:5-7 (KJV) says, “Trust in the LORD with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding. In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths.” When we pray in faith, Jesus answers according to God’s plan, guiding us through every challenge.
The Bible also warns against seeking false prophets that are not from God those who claim to have Godly visions and dreams. In Jeremiah 23:23-27 (KJV), God speaks against those who prophesy lies in His name. “I have heard what the prophets said, that prophesy lies in my name… yea, they are prophets of the deceit of their own heart.” We must be cautious and test every spirit, as 1 John 4:1-3 KJV teaches. Only God sees all and knows all, filling heaven and earth with His presence.
Throughout the Bible, God warns us not to engage in practices like witchcraft, divination, or seeking the dead. Leviticus 20:6 (KJV) and Deuteronomy 18:10-13 (KJV) both speak against these sinful practices. King Saul’s disobedience led to his downfall because he sought a medium instead of trusting God (1 Chronicles 10:13-14). Acts 16:16-18 KJV shows Paul rebuking a spirit of divination, emphasizing that God alone should be our source of wisdom and power.
1 Chronicles 10:13 KJV “So Saul died for his transgression which he committed against the LORD, even against the word of the LORD, which he kept not, and also for asking counsel of one that had a familiar spirit, to enquire of it;”
Let us remember that Jesus is the Wonderful Counselor, the one who knows our future and answers our prayers in faith. We don’t need to seek the dead or false spirits for guidance, for God is always near (Jeremiah 23:23-24 KJV). He fills heaven and earth, knowing every secret and directing us with His wisdom.
eprayer asking for forgiveness in seeking others for guidance instead of God
Heavenly Father,
We come before You with repentant hearts, seeking Your forgiveness for turning to mediums, sorcerers, and astrologers for guidance instead of trusting in You.
Forgive us for looking to the things of this world for answers when You are our true source of wisdom and light.
We renounce these practices and ask for Your mercy.
Lead us back to Your Word and fill us with Your Holy Spirit.
Help us to rely only on You, our Wonderful Counselor, and to trust in Your perfect plan for our lives.
In Jesus’ name, we pray. Amen.

Romans 10:9-10 9That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved. 10For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness, and with the mouth, confession is made unto salvation
John 3:5-6 5Jesus answered, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born of water and of the Spirit, he cannot enter into the kingdom of God. 6That which is born of the flesh is flesh, and that which is born of the Spirit is the Spirit.
