Letter From The Editor’s Desk: Legalism and Unjust Treatment – Lawful vs. Command of God
Hello ePrayer Circle’s Tribe,
I have finished my devotion and I have noticed that daily, I am hearing of people going against God’s word to claim the law of the land to steal or convert things to themselves. Things that do not belong to them. God’s people do not need the law to tell them what is right and wrong. The Law is made for sinners and the cold hearted.
In particular, I am concerned about most seniors losing homes when owing less than $1000 in taxes. Opressing them by making laws to overtake their neighborhoods with lawless people. In addition, outrageous fees and lnterest on loans to the poor. Let’s talk about it.
Legalism is a topic often misunderstood in Christian circles. It refers to an overemphasis on following the law while neglecting the heart of God’s commands. In many ways, legalism focuses on rigid adherence to rules, which can lead to spiritual blindness, missing the greater purpose of God’s law—love and redemption.
The Apostle Paul addressed legalism and the distinction between what is lawful and what aligns with God’s commands. In 1 Corinthians 6:1-2 (KJV), Paul writes, “Dare any of you, having a matter against another, go to law before the unjust, and not before the saints? Do ye not know that the saints shall judge the world?”
This verse emphasizes that while earthly laws may provide structure, believers must look to God’s commands for higher judgment. The church should be a place where conflicts are resolved based on God’s righteousness, not just human law.
In 1 Corinthians 6:12 (KJV), Paul also warns, “All things are lawful unto me, but all things are not expedient: all things are lawful for me, but I will not be brought under the power of any.” Here, Paul clarifies that not everything allowed by human law is beneficial or aligns with God’s will.
Christians are called to discern not just what is legal but what glorifies God. Legalism can trap people into thinking that obeying every letter of the law justifies them before God, but it is the spirit of the law—rooted in love and faith—that truly matters.
Paul continues to explain in 1 Corinthians 2:5 (KJV), “That your faith should not stand in the wisdom of men, but in the power of God.” Legalism often relies on human wisdom and interpretation, but true faith depends on God’s wisdom, which surpasses legalistic boundaries. We must focus on the heart of God’s commandments, which call us to live in love, mercy, and humility.
Property taken from seniors due to unpaid taxes. Many elderly individuals lose their homes because they cannot keep up with rising property taxes. Despite having lived in these homes for decades, legal systems allow the government or private companies to seize property when taxes are not paid. This legal practice may be lawful according to man’s laws, but it contradicts God’s command for justice and mercy.
Ultimately, legalism fails when it focuses on human efforts to achieve righteousness rather than trusting in God’s grace. It is not enough to follow what is lawful according to society; we must always seek to obey the commands of God, which lead to true freedom in Christ.

Romans 10:9-10 9That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved. 10For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness, and with the mouth, confession is made unto salvation
