Discovering the True Church: Jesus Christ as the Cornerstone

Welcome to ePrayer Circle! Today, we are talking about the true meaning of “church.” In today’s world, many various religious groups, including those practicing witchcraft, call their gatherings “churches” to attract Christians.

Many religions that do not honor Jesus Christ often quote the Christian King James Bible but they do not follow that bible but have their own bibles in their religion and places of worship. It’s more like a bait and switch. Bait you to the church and then switch you to another doctrine and bible.

Guard yourself by knowing what the Christian Church is and does.  Let’s Go.

What does “church” really mean? According to the Merriam-Webster dictionary, a church is a place for public Christian worship and an organized body of believers.

According to the Christian King James Bible, church fundamentaly can mean:  Matthew 18:19-20 KJV    19Again I say unto you, That if two of you shall agree on earth as touching any thing that they shall ask, it shall be done for them of my Father which is in heaven.

20For where two or three are gathered together in my name, there am I in the midst of them.

Editor’s note:  Muslims generally refer to their place of worship as a mosque, Monks place of worship and living is called a monastery, witches generally place of worship are called covens  etc…

The King James Bible tells us even more. In Ephesians 2:20 KJV, it says the church is built on the teachings of the apostles and prophets, with Jesus Christ as the cornerstone. Matthew 16:18 emphasizes that Jesus Himself founded the church, and nothing can overcome it. This article will help you understand the true foundation of the church and why it is centered on Jesus Christ.

One real-world example could be when someone is searching for a new church to attend after moving to a new city. They might visit several congregations and notice that some focus heavily on social events, self-help topics, or rituals not aligned with biblical teachings.

By comparing the church’s teachings and practices to scriptures like Ephesians 2:20 KJV and Matthew 16:18 KJV, they can determine if the church is truly based on the foundation of Jesus Christ. They might look for sermons centered on Christ, adherence to biblical doctrines, and a community committed to following Jesus’ teachings.

Here are a few things to look for in selecting an  Holy church.

  • Does the church conduct communion? (Believers are commanded by Jesus to have communion).  This is VERY important. If a church does not perform communion properly (there may be an occassion to skip one here and there), the scripture speaks the Lord may not dwell there. This should be a red light. Teaching attracts people to a church but obiedience determine if they stay.

John 6: 54-59 KJV    54Whoso eateth my flesh, and drinketh my blood, hath eternal life; and I will raise him up at the last day. 55For my flesh is meat indeed, and my blood is drink indeed.

56He that eateth my flesh, and drinketh my blood, dwelleth in me, and I in him. 57As the living Father hath sent me, and I live by the Father: so he that eateth me, even he shall live by me. 58This is that bread which came down from heaven: not as your fathers did eat manna, and are dead: he that eateth of this bread shall live for ever.

59These things said he in the synagogue, as he taught in Capernaum.  Luke 22:19 KJV “And he took bread, and gave thanks, and brake it, and gave unto them, saying, This is my body which is given for you: this do in remembrance of me.”

  • Does the church (the Bride of Christ) require believers to join by confession by mouth that Jesus is Lord?  Romans 10:9-10  9That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved. 10For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness, and with the mouth, confession is made unto salvation
  • Does the church baptize in the name of the Father, Son and Holy Ghost (unto Jesus Christ)? Matthew 28:19 KJV  19Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost:
  • Does the Church pray in Jesus Christ’s name? Does the church pray and praise God in Jesus Christ? John 4:23-24 KJV  23But the hour cometh, and now is, when the true worshippers shall worship the Father in spirit and in truth: for the Father seeketh such to worship him. 24God is a Spirit: and they that worship him must worship him in spirit and in truth. Psalms 150:6  “Let every thing that hath breath praise the LORD. Praise ye the LORD.”
  • Does the church teach the bible including the Gospel in bible study or part of a service so the people will learn the word of God and learn how to live? Jesus often taught in the church on the Sabbath.   Matthew 28:20 KJV   20Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you: and, lo, I am with you alway, even unto the end of the world. Amen.
  • Is the pulpit holy and kept free from lies and profane words?  In otherwords, are the leaders obiedient to the word of God?  Talk the talk and Walk the walk, distinguishing between holy and unholy and able to represent the people to God?   Does the church refrain from celebrating unholy days (against God) such as Holloween?  1 Peter 1:16 KJV  “Because it is written, Be ye holy; for I am holy.”

Isaiah 56:7 KJV  “Even them will I bring to my holy mountain, and make them joyful in my house of prayer: their burnt offerings and their sacrifices shall be accepted upon mine altar; for mine house shall be called an house of prayer for all people.”

Psalms 98:4 KJV  “Make a joyful noise unto the LORD, all the earth: make a loud noise, and rejoice, and sing praise.”

Yes, It is biblical for the church to ask for tithes and offerings as well as require its members to be generous and merciful. Communities support their local churches so they can offer services and  pay rent, lights phone, water, air, heat, and cleaning etc… However, God does not want us to just collect money but don’t forget the first love of the church to love God and obey him.

Luke 11:42 KJV  “But woe unto you, Pharisees! for ye tithe mint and rue and all manner of herbs, and pass over judgment and the love of God: these ought ye to have done, and not to leave the other undone.”  (New Testament).

Editor’s Note:   Some people believe that a church is simply a place to go and pray, thinking that this alone fulfills their spiritual duties. However, reading the entire Gospel reveals that Jesus set an example for us in many ways.

He not only prayed but also taught, baptized, and commanded communion. Remember, Jesus did not have a building, he taught multitudes outside under the heavens.

Therefore, whenever two or more come together in his name. He is there.  That is church.  Therefore, you and your house should serve the Lord By praying, praising, confessing the Lord Jesus, communion and even baptizing if there is no brick and mortar church around.

Many churches have services online, you and your family can worship with them. Understanding requirements for a holy church to represent the people to God is crucial because there will be false prophets and worship leaders who claim that these practices are not biblical for the church in order to deceive you with man made doctrines.

God’s house is indeed a house of prayer, but it includes more than that. It is a place where believers gather to learn, grow, and follow the full example of Jesus Christ.
