ePrayer Room: Mean What You Say and Say What You Mean
Speaking the truth is more important today than ever before. Our words have a powerful impact on those around us. People are often hurt and react quickly to what is said. In the past, people might have said things like, “Oh, you make me sick,” or “If you don’t stop, I’m going to kill you,” without thinking much about it. They might even have called someone an unkind name. Today, these kinds of words can lead to serious trouble. People can get hurt, end up in jail, or even lose their lives because of careless speech.
The Bible teaches us to be careful with our words. In Matthew 12:36-37 (KJV), Jesus says, “But I say unto you, That every idle word that men shall speak, they shall give account thereof in the day of judgment. For by thy words thou shalt be justified, and by thy words thou shalt be condemned.” This means that God listens to what we say and will judge us based on our words.
One Bible story that shows the importance of speaking truthfully is the story of Ananias and Sapphira in Acts 5:1-11 (KJV). They lied about the money they gave to the church and were punished by God. This story reminds us that God values honesty and truthfulness.
James 3:8-10 (KJV) warns us about the power of the tongue: “But the tongue can no man tame; it is an unruly evil, full of deadly poison. Therewith bless we God, even the Father; and therewith curse we men, which are made after the similitude of God. Out of the same mouth proceedeth blessing and cursing. My brethren, these things ought not so to be.” These verses remind us that our words can be both good and bad, and we must be careful how we use them.
We should always mean what we say and say what we mean. Ephesians 4:29 (KJV) says, “Let no corrupt communication proceed out of your mouth, but that which is good to the use of edifying, that it may minister grace unto the hearers.” This verse encourages us to speak words that build others up, not tear them down.
In today’s world, it’s important to be mindful of our speech. Words can heal or hurt, bring joy or pain. By choosing our words carefully, we can reflect God’s love and truth in our lives. Let us be people who speak the truth in love and mean what we say.
