Daily Word: Be Holy – Choosing the Path of Righteousness and Success

Living a holy life in an unholy world can be challenging. We face temptations and pressures that can lead us away from righteousness. But the Bible promises that choosing holiness leads to a fulfilling and peaceful life.  James 4:7 KJV  “Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you.”

From a psychological perspective, Cognitive Dissonance Theory explains how living against our values causes stress and discomfort. When we choose holiness, our actions align with our beliefs, bringing inner peace.

Romans 12:2 KJV advises, “And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind.” This means we should resist worldly temptations and renew our minds with God’s Word. The story of Daniel in the lion’s den (Daniel 6) shows how choosing holiness, even in the face of danger, brings God’s protection and peace.

Deuteronomy 8:18 KJV  “But thou shalt remember the LORD thy God: for it is he that giveth thee power to get wealth, that he may establish his covenant which he sware unto thy fathers, as it is this day.”

The Bible provides a clear understanding of what it means to be holy through various scriptures. Here are some key passages:

Holiness as Separation and Dedication to God

Leviticus 11:44-45 KJV: “For I am the Lord your God: ye shall therefore sanctify yourselves, and ye shall be holy; for I am holy… For I am the Lord that bringeth you up out of the land of Egypt, to be your God: ye shall therefore be holy, for I am holy.”

This passage emphasizes that holiness involves being set apart for God and aligning oneself with His nature.

Holiness in Conduct and Lifestyle

1 Peter 1:15-16 KJV : “But as he which hath called you is holy, so be ye holy in all manner of conversation; Because it is written, Be ye holy; for I am holy.”

This verse teaches that holiness should be reflected in our behavior and lifestyle, imitating God’s holiness.

Holiness as a Requirement for Fellowship with God

Hebrews 12:14 KJV: “Follow peace with all men, and holiness, without which no man shall see the Lord.”

Here, the importance of holiness is underscored as a prerequisite for seeing and being in fellowship with God.4. Holiness Through Transformation

Romans 12:1-2 KJV: “I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that ye present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable unto God, which is your reasonable service. And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God.”

This passage highlights that holiness involves a transformation of our minds and lives, dedicating ourselves to God’s service.

Holiness as God’s Work in Us

1 Thessalonians 5:23 KJV: “And the very God of peace sanctify you wholly; and I pray God your whole spirit and soul and body be preserved blameless unto the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ.”

This verse emphasizes that holiness is also a work of God in us, sanctifying us completely.

Repentance leads to Jesus forgiving and cleaning us to holiness, making us holy and acceptable to God.

Isaiah 1:18 KJV  “Come now, and let us reason together, saith the Lord: though your sins be as scarlet, they shall be as white as snow; though they be red like crimson, they shall be as wool.”

God promises to cleanse and forgive, transforming even the deepest sins to purity.

Reflective Question: What steps can you take to choose a holy life over an unholy one?

In summary, the Bible defines holiness as being set apart for God, reflecting His character in our conduct, and pursuing a transformed life dedicated to His service. It is both a call to live differently from the world and a work that God accomplishes in believers. Holiness is essential for a relationship with God and is a continuous process of aligning ourselves with His will and nature. Scriptures collectively emphasize the importance of both the Word of God and various acts of repentance in the process of spiritual cleansing.

A CALL TO SALVATION:

John 3:16 For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.

Romans 10:9-10  9That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved. 10For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness, and with the mouth, confession is made unto salvation.

John 3:5-6  5Jesus answered, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born of water and of the Spirit, he cannot enter into the kingdom of God. 6That which is born of the flesh is flesh, and that which is born of the Spirit is spirit. 7

Matthew 28:19 KJV  “Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son (Jesus), and of the Holy Ghost:
