Daily Word: The Power of the Name of Jesus Biblically Speaking

The Bible speaks extensively about the name of Jesus and its significance. Here are some key points:

  1. Salvation in His Name: The name of Jesus is central to the Christian faith because it signifies salvation. Acts 4:12 (KJV) says, “Neither is there salvation in any other: for there is none other name under heaven given among men, whereby we must be saved.”
  2. Power in His Name: Jesus’ name carries power and authority. In Philippians 2:9-11 (KJV), it is written, “Wherefore God also hath highly exalted him, and given him a name which is above every name: That at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of things in heaven, and things in earth, and things under the earth; And that every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.”
  3. Healing in His Name: The Bible shows that miracles and healings are performed in the name of Jesus. Acts 3:6 (KJV) records, “Then Peter said, Silver and gold have I none; but such as I have give I thee: In the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth rise up and walk.”
  4. Prayer in His Name: Believers are encouraged to pray in the name of Jesus. John 14:13-14 (KJV) says, “And whatsoever ye shall ask in my name, that will I do, that the Father may be glorified in the Son. If ye shall ask any thing in my name, I will do it.”
  5. Baptism in His Name: The early church baptized believers in the name of Jesus. Acts 2:38 (KJV) states, “Then Peter said unto them, Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost.”

These verses emphasize the profound significance and power of the name of Jesus in the Christian faith, encompassing salvation, authority, healing, prayer, and baptism.

The Bible teaches that Satan and demons recognize and submit to the authority of Jesus and His name. Here are some key passages:
  1. Jesus’ Authority Over Demons: Throughout the Gospels, Jesus demonstrates His authority over demons. In Luke 10:17 (KJV), it says, “And the seventy returned again with joy, saying, Lord, even the devils are subject unto us through thy name.”
  2. Demons Acknowledge Jesus: In several instances, demons recognize Jesus and His power. In Mark 1:23-24 (KJV), it is written, “And there was in their synagogue a man with an unclean spirit; and he cried out, Saying, Let us alone; what have we to do with thee, thou Jesus of Nazareth? art thou come to destroy us? I know thee who thou art, the Holy One of God.”
  3. Demons Driven Out by Jesus’ Name: Jesus’ disciples cast out demons in His name. In Acts 16:18 (KJV), Paul commands a spirit to leave a woman: “And this did she many days. But Paul, being grieved, turned and said to the spirit, I command thee in the name of Jesus Christ to come out of her. And he came out the same hour.”
  4. Ultimate Submission: Philippians 2:10-11 (KJV) speaks to the ultimate authority of Jesus’ name: “That at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of things in heaven, and things in earth, and things under the earth; And that every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.” This passage implies that all beings, including Satan and demons, will ultimately bow to Jesus’ authority.

Reflective Question:  Can you share a personal testimony or experience where calling on the name of Jesus made a difference?

A CALL TO SALVATION:

John 3:16 For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.

Romans 10:9-10  9That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved. 10For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness, and with the mouth, confession is made unto salvation.

John 3:5-6  5Jesus answered, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born of water and of the Spirit, he cannot enter into the kingdom of God. 6That which is born of the flesh is flesh, and that which is born of the Spirit is spirit. 7
