ePrayer Room: A Spirit of Excellence: Embracing Spiritual Protocol

Let love be without dissimulation. Abhor that which is evil; cleave to that which is good.” – Romans 12:9 KJV

In the Christian faith, spiritual protocol refers to the guidelines, principles, and practices that believers follow in their relationship with God and with one another. These protocols are derived from the teachings of Jesus Christ as recorded in the Bible, particularly in the New Testament. While there isn’t a strict list of rules, spiritual protocol encompasses a set of values and behaviors that Christians strive to uphold as they grow in their faith and live out their beliefs.

The story of Joseph in the Bible illustrates a remarkable journey of spiritual excellence amidst adversity. Joseph, favored by his father Jacob, faces jealousy and betrayal from his brothers, who sell him into slavery. Despite this hardship, Joseph remains faithful to God and demonstrates excellence in his character and actions.

As a slave in Egypt, Joseph gains favor through his integrity and diligence, eventually rising to a position of authority in Potiphar’s household. However, he faces temptation and false accusations, yet he remains steadfast in his commitment to righteousness.

Even in prison, Joseph continues to exhibit spiritual excellence by interpreting dreams and offering counsel with wisdom from God. His ability to trust in God’s plan, forgive those who wronged him, and use his gifts for God’s glory ultimately leads to his promotion to a position of power second only to Pharaoh.

Through Joseph’s story, we see how maintaining a spiritual attitude of excellence—characterized by trust in God, integrity, resilience, and forgiveness—can overcome adversity and bring about God’s purpose in our lives.

  1. Prayer: Communication with God through prayer is central to spiritual protocol. Christians are encouraged to pray regularly, both individually and collectively, seeking guidance, strength, and communion with the divine. :“Rejoice always, pray continually, give thanks in all circumstances; for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus.” – 1 Thessalonians 5:16-18 (NIV)This verse emphasizes the importance of prayer as a continuous and joyful practice in the life of a believer, indicating that prayer is not just a ritual but a constant communion with God.Scripture: Studying and meditating on the Bible is essential for understanding God’s will and His plan for humanity. Following the teachings of Jesus Christ and the wisdom found in Scripture is a fundamental aspect of spiritual protocol.
  2. Love and Compassion: Jesus emphasized love for God and love for others as the greatest commandments. Spiritual protocol involves demonstrating love, compassion, and empathy towards all people, regardless of differences or circumstances. “A new command I give you: Love one another. As I have loved you, so you must love one another. By this everyone will know that you are my disciples, if you love one another.” – John 13:34-35 (NIV)Jesus’s commandment to love one another serves as a foundational principle of spiritual protocol, demonstrating that love is not just an emotion but an active and transformative force that identifies followers of Christ.
  3. Holiness and Integrity: Christians are called to live holy and righteous lives, striving for moral purity and integrity in all aspects of their conduct. Spiritual protocol entails avoiding sin and wrongdoing while pursuing righteousness and godliness.
  4. Community and Fellowship: Believers are encouraged to gather together in fellowship, worship, and mutual support. Spiritual protocol emphasizes the importance of building and nurturing Christian community, where members can encourage, edify, and hold one another accountable.
  5. Service and Mission: Following the example of Jesus, Christians are called to serve others selflessly and to share the gospel message with the world. Spiritual protocol involves actively engaging in acts of service, charity, and evangelism to fulfill the Great Commission.  “Therefore, go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely, I am with you always, to the very end of the age.” – Matthew 28:19-20 (NIV)Known as the Great Commission, this passage underscores the importance of spreading the gospel and making disciples, illustrating the mission-oriented aspect of spiritual protocol that calls believers to engage actively in sharing their faith with others.
  6. Faith and Trust: Trusting in God’s providence and sovereignty is a cornerstone of spiritual protocol. Believers are called to have faith in God’s promises, even in the face of adversity or uncertainty, knowing that He is faithful and just.

Overall, spiritual protocol in the Christian faith is about living in accordance with the teachings of Jesus. Many will say that the 10 Commandments are no longer but Jesus did not do away with the 10 Commandments, he added two new commandments to summarize all the commandments. Love God and Love each other more than you love yourself.
