Keywords: Last Supper, Holy Communion, Eucharist symbolism, jesus christ, eprayer circle

The Last Supper is a significant event in the life of Jesus Christ and holds great importance for Christians around the world. It was during this final meal with His disciples that Jesus instituted the sacrament of communion, which continues to be celebrated in churches today. Let’s look into the meaning behind the Last Supper and why it matters to us.

The story of the Last Supper is found in the Bible, in the Gospel of Luke. Jesus gathered with His disciples to share a meal before His crucifixion. During the meal, Jesus took bread, gave thanks, and broke it, saying, “This is my body which is given for you: this do in remembrance of me” (Luke 22:19, KJV). He then took the cup of wine, saying, “This cup is the new testament in my blood, which is shed for you” (Luke 22:20, KJV).

Symbol of Sacrifice: The bread and wine in communion symbolize the body and blood of Jesus, which He would soon sacrifice on the cross for the forgiveness of sins. This act of sacrifice demonstrates Jesus’ great love for us, as stated in John 15:13, “Greater love hath no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends” (KJV).

Remembrance of Christ’s Sacrifice: Communion is a way for Christians to remember and honor the sacrifice of Jesus. 1 Corinthians 11:26 says, “For as often as ye eat this bread, and drink this cup, ye do shew the Lord’s death till he come” (KJV). It is a time of reflection and gratitude for what Jesus has done for us.

Unity and Fellowship: Communion also signifies the unity and fellowship of believers. 1 Corinthians 10:17 KJV tells us, “For we being many are one bread, and one body: for we are all partakers of that one bread” (KJV). It reminds us that we are all part of the body of Christ, connected through His sacrifice.

In conclusion, the Last Supper and communion are deeply meaningful to Christians as they remind us of Jesus’ sacrifice, His love for us, and the unity of believers. It is a time to reflect on the significance of Christ’s death and resurrection, and to renew our commitment to follow Him. Through communion, we are reminded of the hope and salvation we have in Jesus Christ.

A CALL TO SALVATION:

John 3:16 For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.

Romans 10:9-10  9That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved. 10For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness, and with the mouth, confession is made unto salvation.

John 3:5-6  5Jesus answered, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born of water and of the Spirit, he cannot enter into the kingdom of God. 6That which is born of the flesh is flesh, and that which is born of the Spirit is spirit. 7
