Letter From the Editors Desk: There is No Lack in the Universe. Finding Contentment.

Hello ePrayer Circle’s Tribe,
I’m drinking my morning coffee. I’m thinking about some things I need to buy and wondering when the new construction houses were going to come down in price or if at all. I started thinking America has gone GREED. When is enough going to be enough, estate taxes, purchasing taxes, federal, state, city and local taxes. Really?
In a world filled with constant messages urging us to want more, the scripture “The Lord is my Shepherd; I shall not want” (Psalm 23:1) offers a perspective on God’s promise to fulfill your needs as long as He is Lord over your life. However, the dangers of unchecked desires can be dangerous to your life and soul.
This essay explores the consequences of wanting outside of God’s will, or never being satisfied. Below, I’m sharing my own testimony on how wanting can lead individuals to engage in criminal behavior for material possessions. It also highlights the importance of finding contentment in God’s provision and trusting in His plan for our lives. Let’s talk about it.

Psalms 34:9 KJV 9O fear the LORD, ye his saints: for there is no want to them that fear him. 10The young lions do lack, and suffer hunger: but they that seek the LORD shall not want any good thing.
In life, the pursuit of material possessions and worldly desires can lead to unforeseen consequences. The scripture “The Lord is my Shepherd; I shall not want” (Psalm 23:1) serves as a reminder of the sufficiency of God’s grace and the futility of seeking fulfillment outside of His will.
Wanting, when unchecked, can drive individuals to desperate measures, often resulting in unethical or criminal behavior. The desire for material wealth, status, or possessions can blind one to the consequences of their actions, leading to a life filled with greed and discontentment. It is this insatiable craving for more that can push individuals to compromise their morals and engage in unlawful activities.
I recall a personal experience from my youth that highlights the dangers of unchecked wanting. Once, in high school, I envied some girls at school who wore new and fashionable clothes every day, unlike me, who had to repeat outfits. In my desire to keep up with them, I asked my mother, a seamstress, to make me more clothes so I could avoid wearing the same outfit twice. I wanted to be like the older girls in school.
Her response was a lesson that has stayed with me ever since. She said, “Don’t be jealous of what others have. You don’t know how they got it. You never know what they did to get those things. Its not necessary to wear different clothes everyday. You have enough clothes. They are clean, fit well, and not raggedy. If you have one or two outfits that are clean and no holes in them and fit you well, then you are ok but you have more than that. “
Today, having less is fashionable. Living in “tiny houses” or living with less is called being a minimalist. Similar to the 70’s Peace and Love was the thing. People are learning that they don’t want to spend their whole lives working, paying bills and worrying about paying bills consequently, missing out on family life, and life.
They want to enjoy life. This is the way Jesus chose for us to think and live. Yes you are to work but not double shifts every other day. The Lord told Pharaoh “Let my people go, so they may worship me.” These people worked so hard they did not have a day off.

A few weeks later, those same girls who seemed to have it all were caught shoplifting. They were reported on the news proving my mother knew what she was talking about. I was sad for them. I didn’t think they would go that far to be fashionable and popular. They were embarrassed at school. They were no longer smiling all the time.
Since that time, I have been reminded of this lesson, time and time again. You read the magazines or see the movies and say, “wow” and then a sad story follows-perpetrating. True contentment does not come from material possessions but from a deep and abiding relationship with God.
In conclusion, the scripture reminds us that God’s grace is sufficient, and we should find contentment in His provision. Wanting outside of God’s will or constantly wanting can lead to destructive and harmful behaviors. Instead, let us seek fulfillment in His plan for our lives, knowing that His blessings far outweigh any material possessions we may desire.

Matthew 6:29-33 KJV 29And yet I say unto you, That even Solomon in all his glory was not arrayed like one of these. 30Wherefore, if God so clothe the grass of the field, which to day is, and tomorrow is cast into the oven, shall he not much more clothe you, O ye of little faith? 31Therefore take no thought, saying, What shall we eat? or, What shall we drink? or, Wherewithal shall we be clothed?
32(For after all these things do the Gentiles seek:) for your heavenly Father knowes that ye have need of all these things. 33But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you. 34Take therefore no thought for tomorrow: for tomorrow shall take thought for the things of itself. Sufficient unto the day is the evil thereof.
Reflective Question: Reflect on a time when you felt the urge to want more than what you had. How did you handle that desire, and what did you learn from the experience?
