God Can Do All Things But Fail: How Great is Thy Faithfulness.

Lamentations 3:24-26 KJV   ²²It is of the LORD’S mercies that we are not consumed because his compassions fail not. 23 They are new every morning: great is thy faithfulness. 24 The LORD is my portion, saith my soul; therefore will I hope in him. ²⁵The LORD is good unto them that wait for him, to the soul that seeketh him. 26 It is good that a man should both hope and quietly wait for the salvation of the LORD.

Through the story of Lazarus’ resurrection and specific scripture, it highlights God’s faithfulness and the importance of faith in the face of apparent contradictions.

The statement “God can do all things” seems self-explanatory, indicating absolute power and capability. Yet, within the Bible, verses like Lamentations 3:22-23 KJV appear to suggest limitations: “The steadfast love of the Lord never ceases; his mercies never come to an end; they are new every morning; great is your faithfulness.” This verse acknowledges God’s unending love and mercies, but also may imply that these attributes may not always manifest in ways we understand.

To reconcile this apparent paradox, we can turn to the story of Lazarus’ resurrection (John 11:1-44). Jesus, facing the death of his friend, demonstrates his power over death by calling Lazarus forth from the tomb. This act is a clear testament to God’s ability to overcome seemingly insurmountable obstacles.

However, it’s important to remember that Jesus chose to raise Lazarus, not everyone he encountered during his ministry. This suggests that God’s power, while immense, is exercised according to his divine will and purpose.

Romans 13:11 further emphasizes the importance of understanding God’s timing: “Besides this you know what time it is, how it is now the moment for you to wake from sleep.” This verse reminds us that God’s actions unfold according to a specific timeline, not necessarily our immediate desires.

Finally, Romans 8:35-38 assures us that nothing can separate us from God’s love: “Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? Shall tribulation, or distress, or persecution, or famine, or nakedness, or danger, or sword?

… No, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him who loved us.” This passage provides unwavering comfort, knowing that even in the face of uncertainty, our faith and trust in God remain unshakeable.

In conclusion, while God possesses immense power, it is not exercised arbitrarily or without purpose. The Bible offers stories like Lazarus’ resurrection to demonstrate God’s miraculous capabilities, while verses like those from Romans remind us of his timing and unwavering love. Ultimately, our faith lies in the unwavering truth that God’s faithfulness is constant, even when we face challenges that seem insurmountable.
