Repentance brings us peace with God because it removes the barrier that sin creates between us and Him. When we repent, we turn away from our sin and turn towards God. This allows us to experience His love and forgiveness, which brings us great peace.
Repentance also brings us peace with ourselves. When we sin, we often feel guilty and ashamed. This can lead to feelings of worthlessness and despair. However, when we repent, we are forgiven and cleansed of our sins. This allows us to experience a sense of inner peace and wholeness.
Finally, repentance brings us peace with others. When we sin against others, we often damage our relationships with them. However, when we repent, we can ask for forgiveness and seek to restore our relationships. This can lead to a sense of peace and harmony in our relationships with others.
Here are five Bible verses that speak to the peace that we can experience when we repent of our sins and trust in Jesus Christ:
- Romans 5:1-4 KJV : “1Therefore being justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ: 2By whom also we have access by faith into this grace wherein we stand, and rejoice in hope of the glory of God. 3And not only so, but we glory in tribulations also: knowing that tribulation worketh patience;
- 4And patience, experience; and experience, hope: 5And hope maketh not ashamed; because the love of God is shed abroad in our hearts by the Holy Ghost which is given unto us.
- 2 Corinthians 5:17-20: “. 17Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new. 18And all things are of God, who hath reconciled us to himself by Jesus Christ, and hath given to us the ministry of reconciliation;
- 19To wit, that God was in Christ, reconciling the world unto himself, not imputing their trespasses unto them; and hath committed unto us the word of reconciliation. 20Now then we are ambassadors for Christ, as though God did beseech you by us: we pray you in Christ’s stead, be ye reconciled to God.“
- Colossians 1:19-22: ” 19For it pleased the Father that in him should all fulness dwell; 20And, having made peace through the blood of his cross, by him to reconcile all things unto himself; by him, I say, whether they be things in earth or things in heaven.
- 21And you, that were sometime alienated and enemies in your mind by wicked works, yet now hath he reconciled 22In the body of his flesh through death, to present you holy and unblameable and unreproveable in his sight:.”
- Ephesians 2:13-17: 13But now in Christ Jesus ye who sometimes were far off are made nigh by the blood of Christ. 14For he is our peace, who hath made both one, and hath broken down the middle wall of partition between us; 15Having abolished in his flesh the enmity, even the law of commandments contained in ordinances; for to make in himself of twain one new man, so making peace;
- 16And that he might reconcile both unto God in one body by the cross, having slain the enmity thereby: 17And came and preached peace to you which were afar off, and to them that were nigh.
- 1 John 1:9: “If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness.”
Therefore, when we repent of our sins and trust in Jesus Christ, we experience a peace that surpasses all understanding. This peace comes from knowing that our sins are forgiven and that we are reconciled to God, ourselves, and others.
