Hi ePrayer Circle Tribe,

Recently, there has been a lot of news coverage about Social Security benefits and whether there should be an age limit on politicians. But just because many seniors are retired doesn’t mean their lives are over. In fact, it’s the beginning of a new chapter.

Many seniors enjoy life, but they may have a hard time transitioning from a physically demanding work life to a more relaxed and meaningful retirement. But life is a gift, and it’s important to accept change and find what works for us at different stages of our lives.

What does life look like for you at 20, 30, 40, 60, 70, 80 or 90? What works for one person may not work for another. The most important thing is to find our purpose.

I was at church one day when I noticed an usually happy person around 75 looking sad. She told me she had been involved in a community project as a volunteer for a long time and that it had ended, and she was asking God what she was supposed to do with her life now. She was waiting on His answer. We prayed together.

Many people think that if you’re over a certain age, you should forget about it and just enjoy doing nothing. But God gave each of us a purpose, and life is worth living. That’s why I decided to explore what the Bible says about the role of seniors in life.

The Bible does not specifically mention an age at which a person should retire but it does mention an age in which responsibilities change from working to counseling with wisdom and experience. However, there are a number of passages that suggest that God has given seniors important roles to play in the family and church.

Remember, there are exceptions to the rule, there are several examples of people in the Bible who worked well past the age of 50. For example, Moses was 80 years old when he led the Israelites out of Egypt, and Joshua was 79 years old when he led them into the Promised Land. Caleb was also 85 years old when he asked Moses for a portion of land in Canaan, and he continued to fight in battles for many years after that.

In the book of Proverbs, for example, we are told that “gray hair is a crown of glory; it is gained in a righteous life” (Proverbs 16:31). This verse suggests that God sees wisdom and experience as valuable assets, and that seniors can play a vital role in guiding and mentoring younger generations.  Make no mistake, this is not a small task and it is needed to ensure the passage of culture values, intergrity, healthy families and faith in God.

In the book of Ecclesiastes, we are told that “there is a time for everything, and a season for every activity under the heavens” (Ecclesiastes 3:1). This verse suggests that there is a time for work and a time for rest, and that seniors can play a valuable role in passing on their wisdom and experience to younger generations.

Numbers 8:24 KJV  23And the LORD spake unto Moses, saying, 24This is it that belongeth unto the Levites: from twenty and five years old and upward they shall go in to wait upon the service of the tabernacle of the congregation: 25And from the age of fifty years they shall cease waiting upon the service thereof, and shall serve no more: 26But shall minister with their brethren in the tabernacle of the congregation, to keep the charge, and shall do no service. Thus shalt thou do unto the Levites touching their charge.

The Bible also contains a number of examples of seniors who played important roles in the family and church. For example, in the book of Acts, we are told about the apostle Paul’s mother, who was a devout follower of Jesus Christ (Acts 18:26). We are also told about the apostle Timothy, who was mentored by the apostle Paul and who went on to become a leader in the early church (1 Timothy 1:2).

In addition to the roles mentioned above, seniors can also play a valuable role in caring for grandchildren. They can provide love, support, and guidance, and they can help to pass on family traditions and values. Seniors can also play a role in mentoring younger adults, helping them to develop their faith and to make wise choices in life.

In the book of Ephesians, we read:

And to the elders among you, I appeal as a fellow elder and a witness of Christ’s sufferings and also a partaker of the glory that will be revealed: shepherd the flock of God that is among you, exercising oversight, not under compulsion, but willingly, as God would have you; not for shameful gain, but eagerly; not domineering over those in your charge, but being examples to the flock. (Ephesians 4:11-12)

This passage suggests that seniors are to be leaders in the church. They can use their wisdom and experience to guide and mentor younger believers.

In addition to their roles in the family and church, seniors can also play a valuable role in society as a whole. They can use their experience and wisdom to advocate for important causes and to help shape the future of their communities.

In the book of 1 Timothy, we are told that “the older men are to be sober-minded, dignified, self-controlled, sound in faith, in love, and in endurance” (1 Timothy 5:17). This verse suggests that seniors can be a source of strength and stability in the church and that they can play an important role in leading and guiding younger believers.

Of course, not all seniors are called to the same roles. Some seniors may be called to continue working, while others may be called to focus on their families or their church. However, regardless of their specific calling, seniors can make a valuable contribution to the world around them.

Here are some specific roles that seniors can play in the family and the church:

  • Grandparents can provide love, support, and guidance to their grandchildren.
  • Parents can offer wisdom and experience to their adult children.
  • Church leaders can provide guidance and support to the congregation.
  • Volunteers can use their skills and experience to help others in need.

Seniors can also play a role in shaping the future by sharing their wisdom and experience with younger generations. They can help to teach younger people about the importance of faith, family, and community. They can also help to inspire younger people to make a difference in the world.

Here are some more specific roles that seniors can play in the family and church:

  • Mentoring younger generations. Seniors can share their wisdom and experience with younger people, helping them to learn and grow.
  • Passing on traditions. Seniors can help to preserve family traditions and pass them on to the next generation.
  • Providing support. Seniors can provide emotional and practical support to their family and friends.
  • Leading in the church. Seniors can use their wisdom and experience to lead and guide younger believers.
  • Advocating for important causes. Seniors can use their voice to advocate for important causes, such as peace, justice, and environmental protection.
  • Helping to shape the future of their communities. Seniors can use their experience and wisdom to help shape the future of their communities.

These are just a few of the many ways that seniors can make a difference in the world. By using their wisdom and experience, they can play a vital role in the family, church, and society.

In conclusion, God has a special plan for seniors. He has given them wisdom, experience, and a lifetime of lessons to share. Seniors can make a valuable contribution to the family, the church, and the world.

How can you use your unique gifts and experiences to help others love, obey, and follow Christ?

May the Grace and Truth of  God Be with You,

A CALL TO SALVATION:

John 3:16 For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.

Romans 10:9-10  9That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved. 10For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness, and with the mouth, confession is made unto salvation.

John 3:5-6  5Jesus answered, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born of water and of the Spirit, he cannot enter into the kingdom of God. 6That which is born of the flesh is flesh, and that which is born of the Spirit is spirit. 7
