The Gospel consists of the four books in the New Testament that gives the teachings of Jesus Christ, written by John, Luke, Mark, and Matthew.
Overview of the Gospel of Matthew:
Matthew’s name means “Gift of the Lord”, a tax collector who left everything to follow Jesus Christ as an apostle (disciple). His former name was Levi, the tax collector. Matthew wrote the Gospel of Matthew. He wrote it for people who converted from Judaism. This Gospel demonstrates that Jesus Christ is the King and Messiah of Israel. His works support that Jesus Christ is the fulfillment of all of the old testament prophecies of the coming of the Messiah.
“This book describes Jesus’s genealogy, his miraculous birth and childhood, his baptism and temptation, his ministry of healing and preaching, and finally his crucifixion and resurrection. This chapter consists of many important points: Jesus delivered to Pilate; Judas hangs himself fulfilling a prophecy[ Pilate’s wife has a dream about Jesus; Pilate releases Barabbas and delivers Jesus to be crucified; Jesus is crowned with thorns; Jesus is crucified; Jesus dies and is buried, and the sepulcher is sealed and guarded so if Jesus rises from his grave as he predicted, Jesus could not get out. Jesus delivered to Pilate. Pontius Pilate was the fifth governor of the Roman province of Judaea (Source from Wikipedia https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pontius_Pilate)
Jesus was delivered to Pontius Pilate, the governor, by all the chief priests and elders of the people who took counsel against Jesus to put him to death on a charge of blasphemy. Judas (disciple that betrayed Jesus for 30 pieces of silver and identified Jesus to his enemies with a kiss) hanged himself and the prophecy of the “Field of Blood” was fulfilled.
Matthew 27: 9-9-10 Then was fulfilled that which was spoken by Jeremy the prophet, saying, And they took the thirty pieces of silver, the price of him that was valued, whom they of the children of Israel did value; 10And gave them to buy the potter’s field, as the Lord appointed me.
Note: The potter’s field is named the “Field of Blood” because it was bought with the money Judas returned for betraying Jesus. It was called “blood” money.
While Pilate was thinking of what to do about Jesus, In the meantime, Pilate’s wife had a dream about Jesus. She sent Pilate a message: “ Have thou nothing to do with that just man: for I have suffered many things this day in a dream because of him.”
Pilate releases Barabbas and delivers Jesus over to be crucified.
Pilate decided to wash his hands clean of everything by referring to a custom that one prisoner is released for the Sabbath. There were two prisoners. A murderer named Barabbas and Jesus Christ. The people voted to release Barabbas because they were afraid of Caesar who was then ruling over the Roman Empire.
Pilate asked is this not the “King of the Jews?” referring to an old prophecy about the coming of the Messiah. In other Gospels Luke and Mark, the people claim they had no King but Caesar. They wanted Jesus to be crucified. Jesus is handed over to the soldiers.
Note: Politics played a large role in Jesus being crucified.
Note: Caesar Augustus was the Roman emperor over Pilate, the governor.
Jesus is crowned with thorns. Matthew 27:29 KJV 29And when they had platted a crown of thorns, they put it upon his head, and a reed in his right hand: and they bowed the knee before him, and mocked him, saying, Hail, King of the Jews! 30And they spit upon him, and took the reed, and smote him on the head. They found a man of Cyrene, Simon by name: him they compelled to bear his cross. They came unto a place called Golgotha where Jesus was crucified. See note below.
The crucifixion of Jesus Christ and the prophecy of it.
Note: In Aramaic, Golgotha means, a “Place of Skulls”. However, in English, it is termed “Calvery”. Note Many English songs refer to Jesus Christ dying on Calvery Hill. Golgotha, Place of Skulls and Calvary are all referring to the same place.
While nailed to the cross they gave Jesus vinegar to drink on a sponge when he had asked for water. They gave him vinegar to drink mingled with gall: and when he had tasted thereof, he would not drink. Matthew 27: 37KJV 37And set up over his head his accusation written, THIS IS JESUS THE KING OF THE JEWS. Then were there a murderer and a thief being crucified on either side of him.
Jesus was revived and mocked: Matthew 27: 39-42 MLK 39And they that passed by reviled him, wagging their heads, 40And saying, Thou that destroys the temple, and builds it in three days, save thyself. If thou be the Son of God, come down from the cross. 41Likewise also the chief priests mocking him, with the scribes and elders, said, 42He saved others; himself he cannot save. If he is the King of Israel, let him now come down from the cross, and we will believe him. 43He trusted in God; let him deliver him now if he will have him: for he said, I am the Son of God.
Note: From Luke one of the persons (thief) on one side of Jesus asked for mercy. Luke 23: 42-47 KJV 42And he said unto Jesus, Lord, remember me when thou comes into thy kingdom. 43And Jesus said unto him, Verily I say unto thee, Today shalt thou be with me in paradise. 44And it was about the sixth hour, and there was a darkness over all the earth until the ninth hour. 45And the sun was darkened, and the veil of the temple was rent in the midst. 46And when Jesus had cried with a loud voice, he said, Father, into thy hands I commend my spirit: and having said thus, he gave up the ghost.
47Now when the centurion saw what was done, he glorified God, saying, Certainly this was a righteous man.
Jesus dies on the cross. Matthew 27: 46 KJV 46And about the ninth hour Jesus cried with a loud voice, saying, Eli, Eli, lama sabachthani? that is to say, My God, my God, why hast thou forsaken me? Note: Luke 23:34 “Then said Jesus, Father, forgive them; for they know not what they do. Luke 23:46KJV “And when Jesus had cried with a loud voice, he said, Father, into thy hands I commend my spirit: and having said thus, he gave up the ghost.”
Matthew 27: 51-53 51And, behold, the veil of the temple was rent in twain from the top to the bottom, and the earth did quake, and the rocks rent; 52And the graves were opened; and many bodies of the saints which slept arose, 53And came out of the graves after his resurrection, and went into the holy city, and appeared unto many. 54Now when the centurion, and they that were with him, watching Jesus, saw the earthquake, and those things that were done, they feared greatly, saying, Truly this was the Son of God.
The ritual of Jesus’ burial and the sepulcher. Definition: sepulcher is a small room or monument, cut in rock or built of stone, in which a dead person is laid or buried.
Jesus died on a Friday, buried on a Saturday, and resurrected on a Sunday. There was a just man and a disciple of Jesus named Joseph. 58He went to Pilate and begged the body of Jesus. Then Pilate commanded the body to be delivered. Matthew 27:59-66 KJV 59And when Joseph had taken the body, he wrapped it in a clean linen cloth.
Note: Sunday is the official first day of the week. The Catholic church changed Sunday to be the Sabbath as that is the day Jesus was resurrected and by the blood of Jesus, we are given forgiveness of sins. Repentance with remittance of sins without animal sacrifices or going once a year to a priest. Just get on your knees and pray (ask) for it. It is just that simple. It is important to know Jesus is the blood sacrifice once forever and for all. Hebrews 10:10 KJV “By the which will we are sanctified through the offering of the body of Jesus Christ once for all.
60And laid it in his own new tomb, which he had hewn out in the rock: and he rolled a great stone to the door of the sepulcher, and departed. 61And there was Mary Magdalene, and the other Mary, sitting over against the sepulcher.
Note: It was the custom to wrap a body in spices and herbs and they did. 61And there was Mary Magdalene, and the other Mary, sitting over against the sepulcher.
62Now the next day, that followed the day of the preparation, the chief priests and Pharisees came together unto Pilate, 63Saying, Sir, we remember that that deceiver said, while he was yet alive, After three days I will rise again.
64Command therefore that the sepulcher is made sure until the third day, lest his disciples come by night, and steal him away, and say unto the people, He is risen from the dead: so the last error shall be worse than the first. 65Pilate said unto them, Ye have a watch: go your way, make it as sure as ye can. 66So they went and made the sepulcher sure, sealing the stone, and setting a watch.
Note: Jesus said he would bring the temple down and it would rise again in three days. The Chief Priests and Pharisees were aware of the Prophies as they were keepers of the law and interpreters of it. They were afraid Jesus would rise so they ask for guards to watch the tomb so he could not come back and make them look bad-Politics.

“The Resurrection of Jesus Christ” Matthew 28: 1-6 KJV 1In the end of the sabbath, as it began to dawn toward the first day of the week, came Mary Magdalene and the other Mary to see the sepulcher. 2And, behold, there was a great earthquake: for the angel of the Lord descended from heaven, and came and rolled back the stone from the door, and sat upon it. 3His countenance was like lightning, and his raiment white as snow: 4And for fear of him the keepers did shake and became as dead men. 5And the angel answered and said unto the women, Fear not ye: for I know that ye seek Jesus, which was crucified. 6He is not here: for he is risen, as he said. Come, see the place where the Lord lay.
Note: The Resurrection of Jesus Christ is celebrated as Easter Holiday in the US.
Jesus appears to women before he appeared to the male disciples. Mary Magdalene and the other Mary were walking back to the other disciples when they met Jesus. They worshipped him. Matthew 28: 10- 19 KJV 10Then said Jesus unto them, Be not afraid: go tell my brethren that they go into Galilee, and there shall they see me.
The soldiers took a bribe for a lie that lives today. The Chief Priests and elderly council gave large amounts of money to the soldiers who stood guard of the tomb, 13Saying, Say ye, His disciples came by night, and stole him away while we slept. 14And if this comes to the governor’s ears, we will persuade him, and secure you. 15So they took the money, and did as they were taught: and this saying is commonly reported among the Jews until this day.
The declaration Jesus makes about his powers to his disciples on a mountain in Galilee. 16Then the eleven disciples went away into Galilee, into a mountain where Jesus had appointed them. 17And when they saw him, they worshipped him: but some doubted. 18And Jesus came and spoke unto them, saying, All power is given unto me in heaven and in the earth.
You will learn “The great commission” that Jesus gave to the disciples. 19Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost: 20Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you: and, lo, I am with you always, even unto the end of the world. Amen.
