Keywords: relationship promises, commitment, trust, communication, forgiveness

Explore the common issue of not agreeing and sticking to promises in romantic relationships. Learn strategies to improve communication, rebuild trust, and strengthen your relationship.

In every relationship, promises are made with the intention of keeping them. However, the reality is that sometimes we fail to follow through, leading to disappointment and frustration. This can be especially damaging in romantic relationships, where trust and commitment are essential.

One of the main reasons for not keeping promises in relationships is a lack of agreement or understanding. Partners may have different expectations or interpretations of what was promised, leading to conflicts. To overcome this, it’s crucial to have open and honest communication. Discuss expectations clearly and make sure both partners are on the same page. Amos 3:3 KJV  “Can two walk together, except they be agreed?”

Another common issue is the failure to prioritize promises. Life gets busy, and sometimes we forget or neglect to fulfill our commitments. To address this, it’s important to set realistic expectations and priorities. Make a conscious effort to fulfill your promises, even if it means adjusting your schedule or making sacrifices.

1 John 2:5 KJV  “But who so keeps his word, in him verily is the love of God perfected: hereby know we that we are in him.”

Trust is fundamental in any relationship, and breaking promises can erode trust over time. To rebuild trust, it’s essential to acknowledge the impact of your actions, apologize sincerely, and demonstrate through your behavior that you are committed to change. Communication is key here as well, so keep your partner informed about your efforts and progress.  Love comes from the truth.  Without truth there is no love. God is Love.

1 John 4:7 KJV  “Beloved, let us love one another: for love is of God; and every one that loveth is born of God, and knoweth God.”

Forgiveness is also crucial in overcoming the challenge of not keeping promises. No one is perfect, and everyone makes mistakes. Learning to forgive and move forward is essential for the health and longevity of your relationship.

In conclusion, the problem of not agreeing and sticking to promises in relationships is common but can be overcome with open communication, commitment, trust-building, and forgiveness. By addressing these issues head-on, you can strengthen your relationship and build a foundation for a lasting and fulfilling partnership.

Biblical Scripture: Matthew 5:34-37 KJV   34But I say unto you, Swear not at all; neither by heaven; for it is God’s throne: 35Nor by the earth; for it is his footstool: neither by Jerusalem; for it is the city of the great King. 36Neither shalt thou swear by thy head, because thou canst not make one hair white or black. 37But let your communication be, Yea, yea; Nay, nay: for whatsoever is more than these cometh of evil.

In other words, when you make an agreement to do something, that agreement is binding and should be enough, no I promise or swear should be necessary.  Yes you agree and will do it or No, I will not should be sufficient. Signing a contract is basically, yes, I agree with what I am signing. Signed contracts prove your agreement.

This is why marriage licenses are given in order to have proof of agreement for the marriage in case of a dispute. This license proves either a person is legally married or not. This is why God commands sexual relations are to be between married people. In addition, children are created through these sexual relations creating families.

Creating soul ties through sexually relationships outside of marriage and making promises that are not kept create dangerous situations that should be repented with remittance.

Have there been times in your relationship where promises were not kept? How did this impact your relationship, and what steps can you take to improve communication and trust?

Romans 10:9-10  9That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved. 10For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness, and with the mouth, confession is made unto salvation.

John 3:5-6  5Jesus answered, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born of water and of the Spirit, he cannot enter into the kingdom of God. 6That which is born of the flesh is flesh, and that which is born of the Spirit is spirit. 7
