Letter From the Editors Desk: Complaining and The Fire.
In life’s journey, it’s easy to find ourselves complaining about what we don’t have or what’s going wrong. However, the Bible teaches us a different way to view our circumstances. Through four specific scriptures and a powerful Bible story, we learn the importance of not complaining but rather explaining our needs to God and finding satisfaction in His provision.
Hello ePrayer Circle’s Tribe,
As I sit here, drinking my morning coffee and reflecting on the past two weeks since my mother’s passing, I find myself in sorrow over the relentless pace of everyday life. In the midst of my grieving, life hasn’t paused, presenting its usual array of technical glitches, misleading sales pitches, and products that seldom live up to their promises.
I’ve also encountered my fair share of challenging interactions, dealing with individuals whose work ethic leaves much to be desired. It’s my observation that, irrespective of one’s faith, the matter of money and business seem to operate by their own set of ruthless rules.
Amid these trials, I’ve sensed danger in the air, a tangible shift that demands we all strive for better. During one particularly trying moment, I found myself succumbing to frustration and anger, my thoughts spiraling into complaints. But then, I paused.
I took a moment to repent. I took a walk and turned my heart towards singing praises to God. This deliberate shift in focus was crucial for me; I wanted to ensure that my words and thoughts didn’t lead me astray from God’s teachings. We can cancel blessings with complaining. Instead, explain to God and respectfully wait and trust. Let’s talk about it.
- Proverbs 9:10 KJV “The fear of the LORD is the beginning of wisdom: and the knowledge of the holy is understanding.”
- Philippians 4:11-12 KJV- Paul teaches us to be content in any situation, whether we have a lot or a little. This means that instead of complaining, we should find peace in knowing God is with us in every situation. “Not that I speak in respect of want: for I have learned, in whatsoever state I am, therewith to be content.”
- 2 Corinthians 12:9 KJV – “My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.” Here, we are reminded that even when we feel lacking, God’s grace is enough to carry us through. It’s a call to rely on God’s strength rather than our own. “And he said unto me, My grace is sufficient for thee: for my strength is made perfect in weakness. Most gladly therefore will I rather glory in my infirmities, that the power of Christ may rest upon me.”
- Psalm 23:1 KJV – “The Lord is my shepherd, I shall not want.” This verse paints a picture of God as a caring shepherd who provides for every need of His sheep. When we trust in Him, we realize we have everything we need and are less likely to complain.
- Philippians 2:14 – “Do all things without murmurings and disputings:” Encourages us to do everything without grumbling or arguing. This principle helps us to see the good in our lives and focus on positive outcomes.
Bible Story Illustration: The story of the Israelites in the wilderness (Exodus 16) perfectly illustrates why we should not complain. After God miraculously freed them from slavery in Egypt, the Israelites faced hardships in the desert. Instead of trusting God who had already shown great miracles, they complained about their situation. God provided manna from heaven, showing His provision and patience, but He also taught them the importance of trust and contentment.
Numbers 11:1-4 KJV 1And when the people complained, it displeased the LORD: and the LORD heard it; and his anger was kindled; and the fire of the LORD burnt among them, and consumed them that were in the uttermost parts of the camp. 2And the people cried unto Moses; and when Moses prayed unto the LORD, the fire was quenched. 3And he called the name of the place Taberah: because the fire of the LORD burnt among them. 4And the mixt multitude that was among them fell a lusting: and the children of Israel also wept again, and said, Who shall give us flesh to eat?
Conclusion: Complaining can be like a fire that spreads negativity and dissatisfaction. However, by remembering these scriptures and the story of the Israelites, we are encouraged to find satisfaction in the Lord. His grace is indeed sufficient for us, and when we see Him as our shepherd, we realize we lack nothing.
By turning our complaints into prayers and explanations to God, we open our hearts to His peace and provision. Let us strive to overcome complaining with gratitude, trusting in the Lord’s plan and timing for our lives.
May the God of Hope be with you,

A CALL TO SALVATION:
John 3:16 “For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.”
Romans 10:9-10 9That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved. 10For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness, and with the mouth, confession is made unto salvation.
John 3:5-6 5Jesus answered, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born of water and of the Spirit, he cannot enter into the kingdom of God. 6That which is born of the flesh is flesh, and that which is born of the Spirit is spirit. 7
