Hello ePrayer Circle Tribe?
Over the past month, I noticed that a hot topic on all social media right now is how people are “wilding out” due to Elections, World War III , crimes, diseases, inflation, and food shortages fears.
Drawing on my bachelor’s Degree and studies in Political Science, I dusted off one of my favorite textbooks from over 40 years ago to search for patterns in the predictions of political theorists. As the saying goes, “there’s nothing new under the sun.”
I looked into the works of Karl Marx, a communist, whose Communist Manifesto was published in 1848, and Vladimir Lenin, a socialist, who wrote Imperialism, the Highest Stage of Capitalism in 1916, during World War I, and Adam Smith often considered the father of capitalism. Adam Smith: famous work “The Wealth of Nations” (1776),
Their insights are astonishing as I remembered. Let’s explore how various societies use social pillars to maintain social order or chaos during times of crisis and explore what it takes to keep people from losing hope. Of course, we’ll discuss the type of government Jesus supported. Let’s get started!
In times of crisis—whether it be war, economic depression, famine, or disease—governments throughout history have developed social pillars to lessen chaos. These pillars, often rooted in community care, aim to protect the most vulnerable in society: the elderly, children, orphans, single parents, and the disabled.
Socialism, capitalism, and communism each predict different outcomes for capitalist society, particularly during times of crisis.
However, as we’ve seen, during a crisis, people often turn to community and religion to define themselves. Without stability or trust in these systems, chaos ensues, and nations spiral into disorder. Many argue that the breakdown of societal transformation and instability is a result of turning away from God.
The Predictions of Political Systems
Karl Marx, the father of communism, vision of communism focused on equality and removing private property to prevent exploitation.
Marx predicted that capitalism would eventually lead to a system where “the rich get richer, and the poor get poorer.” He believed that this would result in an uprising of the working class, who would overthrow the capitalist system and establish a classless society with communal ownership of resources.
Socialism is a political and economic system in which the means of production, distribution, and exchange are owned or regulated by the community or state, with the goal of reducing inequality and providing for the needs of all citizens.
Venezuela – Under its socialist leadership, Venezuela has nationalized many industries and follows a model of wealth redistribution. Cuba and North Korea are Socialist countries.
Vladimir Lenin – socialism- expanded on Marx’s ideas, arguing that capitalism would reach its final stage—imperialism—where wealthier nations exploit poorer ones.
He foresaw a time when the proletariat (working class) would rise up and form a socialist state, redistributing wealth and providing for the needs of everyone in society, from the elderly to the orphaned.
Lenin believed this could only happen through a revolution that dismantled capitalist structures.
Capitalism, on the other hand, places its faith in free markets and individual responsibility. It has brought prosperity to many but also inequality, almost slavery.
While the market-driven economy rewards hard work, innovation, and competition, critics like Marx warned that unchecked capitalism leads to inequality and chaos as wealth becomes concentrated in the hands of a few. United States, Canada and United Kingdom are Capitalist countries.
Adam Smith, father of Captialism, advocated for a free-market economy where individuals act out of self-interest, and this self-interest unintentionally benefits society as a whole through what he called the invisible hand of the market.
His key predictions include: Economic growth: Smith predicted that capitalism, driven by competition and innovation, would lead to continuous economic growth and wealth creation.
Milton Friedman, a modern advocate of capitalism, argued that free markets would provide the most efficient outcomes, as government intervention distorts natural market processes. However, critics argue that this view can lead to economic inequality and concentration of wealth.
In times of crisis, such as economic depression, capitalism often struggles to meet the needs of the vulnerable, leaving them reliant on charity or government intervention.
Historical and Biblical Warnings
Throughout history, many regimes that moved away from God’s principles faced destruction. The Bible provides numerous examples of how societies that exploited the poor or worshipped false gods eventually collapsed under God’s judgment.
One example is the story of Sodom and Gomorrah—cities that fell because of their wickedness, including oppression of the poor and corruption.
Similarly, the Bible recounts how the Israelites faced judgment for overworking their people and worshipping idols, sacrificing children to false gods (Leviticus 18:21 KJV), and ignoring the needs of the vulnerable. God repeatedly called His people to justice, care, and compassion.
In Isaiah 10:1-2 (KJV), God says:
“Woe unto them that decree unrighteous decrees, and that write grievousness which they have prescribed; To turn aside the needy from judgment, and to take away the right from the poor of my people, that widows may be their prey, and that they may rob the fatherless!”
These warnings show us that any society that abandons justice, fairness, and compassion is destined for chaos and destruction. The love of money, the pursuit of wealth at any cost, and the exploitation of others lead nations away from God’s will.
Jesus’ Teachings on Community and Compassion
Jesus didn’t subscribe to any one political system—capitalism, socialism, or communism. Instead, He called for love, compassion, and community. In Matthew 25:37-40 (KJV), Jesus emphasizes the importance of caring for the least among us: “Then shall the righteous answer him, saying, Lord, when saw we thee an hungered, and fed thee? or thirsty, and gave thee drink?
When saw we thee a stranger, and took thee in? or naked, and clothed thee? Or when saw we thee sick, or in prison, and came unto thee? And the King shall answer and say unto them, Verily I say unto you, Inasmuch as ye have done it unto one of the least of these my brethren, ye have done it unto me.”
Jesus promoted a sense of family, care for the marginalized, and love for one another. He didn’t advocate for the pursuit of wealth, but rather for an abundant life grounded in integrity, work, and community. He said in Matthew 6:24 (KJV):
“Ye cannot serve God and mammon.” The love of money is a root of evil, distracting us from serving God and caring for others.
Jesus promoted values that we see in elements of both socialism and communism—caring for the elderly, orphans, and the poor. However, His teachings transcend political ideologies. His focus was on community, love, and justice. Jesus taught that our purpose is not to strive to be rich but to love one another and build a society that honors God. Romans 2:11 KJV “For there is no respect of persons with God.”
Government Without God and the Inevitable Fall
When governments, whether socialist, capitalist, or communist, abandon moral principles rooted in God’s laws, they face inevitable collapse. Governments are supposed to serve the people, but when they turn toward greed, exploitation, or oppression, they fail.
In the Bible, the Ten Commandments and other laws set by God were meant to provide a framework for just governance. Kings and priests were tasked with judging disputes fairly, as seen in the book of Judges.
God’s laws are designed to create stability, peace, and justice. They emphasize caring for the most vulnerable and ensuring fairness in society. Without these divine principles, chaos prevails. When governments disregard these foundations, trust erodes, leading to revolutions, crime, and the breakdown of communities.
The Bible is full of examples of nations that turned away from God and suffered the consequences. In Scripture, God spoke directly to kings who honored and obeyed Him.
When the governments did not honor or obey God often he sent prophets or priests to deliver His messages. Remember Pharaoh in the Book of Exodus?
Exodus 9:1 KJV “Then the LORD said unto Moses, Go in unto Pharaoh, and tell him, Thus saith the LORD God of the Hebrews, Let my people go, that they may serve me.”
Leadership must uphold God’s values, or there is no true guidance. Without faith, truth, and integrity, justice fails and laws are created to serve only certain segments of society, while others fall into the service of Satan and the pursuit of wealth.
Ultimately, Jesus will return to rule over a new Jerusalem, establishing a perfect society governed by the same principles we have now—The Bible, the Word of God.
Isaiah 9:7 KJV “Of the increase of his government and peace there shall be no end, upon the throne of David, and upon his kingdom, to order it, and to establish it with judgment and with justice from henceforth even for ever. The zeal of the LORD of hosts will perform this.”
In conclusion going foward, in a time where nations are facing crises—whether economic, political, or social—it is clear that no political system can fully replace the role of community and faith in God. Socialism, capitalism, and communism all offer different predictions and methods of governance, but without a foundation of love, justice, and compassion—the values taught by Jesus—chaos will eventually come.
Nations must return to God’s principles, rooted in community, care for one another, and an abundant life that values work, integrity, and love for neighbors. God is not a respector of persons.
As Jesus said, “Inasmuch as ye have done it unto one of the least of these my brethren, ye have done it unto me.” True peace and stability come not from political systems, but from a society that loves God inturn God loves us because we love and serve one another. In this world Jesus tells believers, “He will never leave us and we have nothing to fear”.
John 14:27 KJV “Peace I leave with you, my peace I give unto you: not as the world giveth, give I unto you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid.”
Romans 8:28 KJV “And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to his purpose.”
Hebrews 13:5 KJV “Let your conversation be without covetousness; and be content with such things as ye have: for he hath said, I will never leave thee, nor forsake thee.”
Hebrews 4:16 KJV “Let us therefore come boldly unto the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy, and find grace to help in time of need.”
1 Peter 5:6-8 KJV 6Humble yourselves therefore under the mighty hand of God, that he may exalt you in due time: 7Casting all your care upon him; for he careth for you. 8Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, walketh about, seeking whom he may devour:
Reflection or Journal Question: How can our reliance on community, faith, and compassion help us stay grounded during times of crisis, and what can we learn from Jesus’ teachings about caring for one another in these challenging moments?
