Isaiah Prophesy: Warning to a Disobedient Nation “Let Us Reason Together” and the Six Judgements.

Isaiah is a notable “Evangelical Prophet” who predicted the Old Testament’s future events. He was a religious and political counselor to the nation. He was known to have “prophetic foreshortening”.

His most notable prophecy is the coming of Jesus Christ as the Messiah and the Slain Lamb of God.  Isaiah is known for predicting the fall of the nation Israel (Judah and Jerusalem) to Babylon. The Lord gave Isaiah a vision for Judah, Jerusalem, and Israel (not necessarily to happen at the same time).

This article will cover the beginning chapters of the Book of Isaiah from the King James Bible. Isaiah told the people that God was weary of their ways, and that they needed to return to God. Even though they were disobedient, the Lord, said “Let Us Reason Together”.  God still allowed free will.

Below, I will cover first, the warning God gave to the nation to return to righteousness. Secondly, I will cover God’s six judgments against the nation.  It’s interesting because many of these same sins are revealed among many different nations today. There is “nothing new under the sun” or “history repeats itself”.

The warning God gave to the nation to return to righteousness.

Isaiah 18-30:KJV  18Come now, and let us reason together, saith the LORD: though your sins are as scarlet, they shall be as white as snow; though they are red like crimson, they shall be as wool. 19If ye be willing and obedient, ye shall eat the good of the land:

20 But if ye refuse and rebel, ye shall be devoured with the sword: for the mouth of the LORD hath spoken it. 21How is the faithful city become a harlot! it was full of judgment; righteousness lodged in it, but now murderers.

22Thy silver becomes dross, thy wine mixed with water: 23Thy princes are rebellious, and companions of thieves: everyone loveth gifts, and followed after rewards: they judge not the fatherless, neither doth the cause of the widow come unto them.
24Therefore saith the Lord, the LORD of hosts, the mighty One of Israel, Ah, I will ease me of mine adversaries, and avenge me of mine enemies: 25And I will turn my hand upon thee, and purely purge away thy dross, and take away all thy tin:

26And I will restore thy judges as at the first, and thy counselors as at the beginning: afterward thou shalt be called, The city of righteousness, the faithful city. 27Zion shall be redeemed with judgment and her converts with righteousness.

28And the destruction of the transgressors and of the sinners shall be together, and they that forsake the LORD shall be consumed. 29For they shall be ashamed of the oaks which ye have desired, and ye shall be confounded for the gardens that ye have chosen.

30For ye shall be as an oak whose leaf faded, and as a garden that hath no water. 31And the strong shall be as tow, and the maker of it as a spark, and they shall both burn together, and none shall quench them.

God’s Six Judgements against the unresponsive people of Israel in the Old Testament. The penalty was death. Their root would rot, and blossom will be dust. He sent armies to overtake the nation, and many were put into captivity.  However, later in the Book of Isaiah, God sent Hope- years later.

  1. Real estate owners were greedy and used legal processes to deprive the poor of what was legally theirs.
  2. Devotion to pleasure (drunks) and neglected God’s Work.
  3. Defied the Lord’s commandments and ridiculed his prophets.
  4. Reversal of morality. They called evil good and good evil – idolatry.
  5. They were wise in their own eyes and were arrogant. Pride goes before destruction.
  6. They justified the wicked for a bribe. They took justice from the righteous with wicked judges.

Conclusion: Isaiah a prophet who counseled the religious and political leaders was most noted for his prophecy of the coming of Jesus Christ and the events afterward. He also prophesized God’s judgment and wrath against Israel.  The people became afraid of the prophets.  All the prophesies became true.
