ePrayer Room: Why Seeking Revenge is a Path to Hate, Not Justice

Keywords: revenge, justice, hate, forgiveness, Bible teaching, God’s justice, wisdom, Matthew 10:16, Romans 12:19, Proverbs 20:22, free bible classes, gospel lessons

Revenge is not justice; it is hate. The Bible teaches us that seeking revenge is not the right path. Instead, we should trust in God’s justice. Let’s explore this idea with three scriptures and a Bible story.

vengence is hate (2)

First, Romans 12:19 (KJV) says, “Dearly beloved, avenge not yourselves, but rather give place unto wrath: for it is written, Vengeance is mine; I will repay, saith the Lord.” This verse reminds us that God is the one who will repay wrongs, not us. When we take revenge, we step into God’s role, which can lead to more harm and hate.

Second, Proverbs 20:22 (KJV) says, “Say not thou, I will recompense evil; but wait on the Lord, and he shall save thee.” Here, we learn to wait on God rather than trying to repay evil ourselves. Trusting in God’s justice helps us avoid the cycle of hate and revenge.

Third, Matthew 10:16 (KJV) says, “Behold, I send you forth as sheep in the midst of wolves: be ye therefore wise as serpents, and harmless as doves.” This scripture emphasizes that while we should be wise and cautious, we should also be gentle and innocent, avoiding the trap of seeking revenge. Instead, we should act with wisdom and kindness, trusting in God’s guidance.

A Bible story that illustrates this is the story of Joseph in Genesis. Joseph’s brothers sold him into slavery out of jealousy. Later, when Joseph became a powerful leader in Egypt, he had the chance to take revenge on his brothers.

Instead, he forgave them and provided for them during a famine. Joseph said in Genesis 50:20 (KJV), “But as for you, ye thought evil against me; but God meant it unto good.” Joseph saw God’s hand in his life and chose forgiveness over revenge.

In conclusion, revenge is not justice; it is hate. The Bible teaches us to leave vengeance to God and trust in His justice. By doing so, we break the cycle of hate and embrace forgiveness and love. Remember, God is in control, and He will make things right in His time.

Let us be wise as serpents and harmless as doves, showing God’s love and forgiveness in all we do.

A CALL TO SALVATION:

John 3:16 For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.

Romans 10:9-109That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved. 10For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness, and with the mouth, confession is made unto salvation.

John 3:5-65Jesus answered, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born of water and of the Spirit, he cannot enter into the kingdom of God. 6That which is born of the flesh is flesh, and that which is born of the Spirit is spirit. 7
