ePrayer Circle Room Unlocking True Wealth – Where Are Your Treasures?
Matthew 6:21 KJV “For where your treasure is, there will your heart be also.”
Have you ever thought about what you treasure most in life? Is it money, a career, or even a hobby? Jesus teaches us in Matthew 6:21 that whatever we value most in life will capture our hearts. This means that our thoughts, time, and energy will be focused on what we hold dear. But what if our treasures aren’t the things that truly matter?
The Story of the Rich Young Ruler
One day, a young man asked Jesus what he needed to do to have eternal life. Jesus told him to follow the commandments, and the young man replied that he had kept them all. But then Jesus said something surprising: “Sell all that you have and give to the poor, and you shall have treasure in heaven; and come, follow me” (Matthew 19:21 KJV). The young man went away sad because he had great wealth. His treasure was in his riches, not in following Jesus.
This story shows us that earthly treasures, like money and possessions, can hold us back from following Jesus fully. When we place our trust in things that don’t last, we miss out on the eternal treasures that God offers.
Three Scriptures to Consider
- Proverbs 23:4-5 (KJV): “Labour not to be rich: cease from thine own wisdom. Wilt thou set thine eyes upon that which is not? for riches certainly make themselves wings; they fly away as an eagle toward heaven.”
- This scripture reminds us that wealth is temporary and can quickly disappear. We should not focus all our efforts on gaining riches, but rather on gaining wisdom and understanding from God.
- Colossians 3:2 (KJV): “Set your affection on things above, not on things on the earth.”
- We are encouraged to focus on spiritual things, like love, kindness, and faith, which are eternal and lead us closer to God.
- 1 Timothy 6:17-19 (KJV): “Charge them that are rich in this world, that they be not highminded, nor trust in uncertain riches, but in the living God, who giveth us richly all things to enjoy; That they do good, that they be rich in good works, ready to distribute, willing to communicate; Laying up in store for themselves a good foundation against the time to come, that they may lay hold on eternal life.”
- This passage teaches that it’s not wrong to have wealth, but we should use it to do good, helping others and building a foundation for eternity.
A Real-World Example
Imagine someone who spends all their time working and saving money, hoping to buy a bigger house or a nicer car. They are so focused on these goals that they neglect spending time with their family or helping others. One day, they realize that they’ve missed out on the most important things in life—relationships, love, and spiritual growth. The big house and fancy car don’t bring lasting happiness, but the time spent loving and helping others does.
Conclusion
The treasures we choose will guide our lives. If we treasure money, possessions, or status, that’s where our hearts will be. But if we treasure God’s kingdom, we will seek to love others, grow in our faith, and store up eternal rewards.
As you go about your day, remember to treasure the things that matter most—your relationship with God and the people He has placed in your life. Seek the treasures that last forever, and your heart will be filled with true joy and peace.
Take a moment to reflect: where are your treasures? Is your heart in the right place?
