ePrayer Circle Room: Sometimes There is a Lesson in the Blessing
In our fast-paced world, waiting can be one of the most challenging things we are called to do. Yet, the Bible teaches us that sometimes the greatest lessons come from the blessings we receive while we wait on the Lord. God has blessed nations through one person because of his faithfulness and obedience. His name is Abraham.
Note: We refer to Abraham as in the present tense because we never die. Our soul lives with God forever. Revelation 1:8 KJV “I am Alpha and Omega, the beginning and the ending, saith the Lord, which is, and which was, and which is to come, the Almighty.”
Isaiah 40:31 KJV reminds us, “But they that wait upon the LORD shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings as eagles; they shall run, and not be weary; and they shall walk, and not faint.” Waiting on the Lord renews our strength and helps us grow in faith and patience.
One powerful story illustrating this is the story of Abraham and Sarah. In Genesis 21:1-3, we learn that God blessed the husband and wife with a son, Isaac, in their old age. However, this blessing came after many years of being faithful, obiediance, and trusting in God’s promise. Sarah was 90 years old and Abraham was 100 years old when God blessed them with a child named Issac.
Note: Later Issac bore sons, Jacob and Esau. Jacob name was changed to Israel and from his seed birth the nation, Israel – The Holy Throne of God.
Sarah was 90 years old when she gave birth to Isaac. This is noted in Genesis 17:17 KJV , where it says, “Then Abraham fell upon his face, and laughed, and said in his heart, Shall a child be born unto him that is an hundred years old? and shall Sarah, that is ninety years old, bear?” (King James Version). They could not believe the impossible even though Abraham was a servant with an excellent spirit. It was beyond his imagination.
God made a promise to Abraham. He told Abraham all nations would come from him at 100 years old.
God showed Abraham his glory and greatness of power in that he could do the impossible. God answered Abraham’s faith because Abraham learned the lesson of faithfulness and obiedience. This story teaches us that God answers the faith. God can do anything. Time and distance are not barriers to his power. The Lord is able and he blesses beyond our imagination.
Psalm 27:14 KJV also encourages us, “Wait on the LORD: be of good courage, and he shall strengthen thine heart: wait, I say, on the LORD.” This verse highlights that waiting on God requires courage and faith. It’s in these moments of waiting that God works in our hearts, preparing us for the blessings He has in store.
God changed Abraham name from Abram to Abraham, blessed him with a child in old age with his 90 year old wife, Sarah. God promised Abraham his seed would multiply as numerous as the stars of the heaven and as the grains of sand. His seed would possess the gate of his enemies.
This blessing went into the future with a generational blessing. Did you know you are a seed of Abraham by faith? You are also apart of this blessing and you shall possess the gate of your enemies. God is awesome. He does not multiply only by flesh but by spirit demonstrating the supernatural powers of God.
- Genesis 22:17 KJV Promise of Blessings and Victory: “That in blessing I will bless thee, and in multiplying I will multiply thy seed as the stars of the heaven, and as the sand which is upon the sea shore; and thy seed shall possess the gate of his enemies; And in thy seed shall all the nations of the earth be blessed; because thou hast obeyed my voice.”
God reiterated the promise of numerous descendants and added that Abraham’s offspring would be victorious over their enemies and that all nations of the earth would be blessed through his seed.
History
- Jacob’s name was changed to Israel by God. This is recorded in Genesis 32:28 KJV: “And he said, Thy name shall be called no more Jacob, but Israel: for as a prince has thou power with God and with men, and has prevailed” (King James Version). This name change signifies his pivotal role in the foundation of the Israelite nation.
- Covenantal Blessing: The covenantal promises given to Abraham and Isaac were reaffirmed to Jacob (Israel). For example, Genesis 35:11-12 KJV states, “And God said unto him, I am God Almighty: be fruitful and multiply; a nation and a company of nations shall be of thee, and kings shall come out of thy loins; And the land which I gave Abraham and Isaac, to thee I will give it, and to thy seed after thee will I give the land.”
- Significance in Tradition: The Jewish people are often referred to as the children of Israel, indicating their descent from Jacob (Israel) whose father is Isaac and his father is Abraham. This term is used extensively throughout the Bible and Jewish tradition.
Romans 9:4-7 KJV 4Who are Israelites; to whom pertaineth the adoption, and the glory, and the covenants, and the giving of the law, and the service of God, and the promises; 5Whose are the fathers, and of whom as concerning the flesh Christ came, who is over all, God blessed for ever. Amen.
Romans 9:6-7 KJV: 6Not as though the word of God hath taken none effect. For they are not all Israel, which are of Israel: 7Neither, because they are the seed of Abraham, are they all children: but, In Isaac shall thy seed be called. Israel is referred to the Holy Throne of God.
1 Kings 9:5 KJV God to Solomon (the son of King David. King David is the line of Jesus Christ). “Then I will establish the throne of thy kingdom upon Israel for ever, as I promised to David thy father, saying, There shall not fail thee a man upon the throne of Israel.”
While Isaac is an important patriarch, Jacob (Israel) is directly referred to as the “Father of the Nation of Israel” due to his sons forming the twelve tribes and the direct biblical references to his new name and role.
Reflect on your life. Are there areas where God is asking you to be faithful even when you are getting what you want or you are in trouble? Trust in His timing and remember that sometimes, the lessons learned in the waiting are just as valuable as the blessings themselves.
By waiting, trusting and obeying the Lord, we grow in faith, strengthen our hearts, and prepare ourselves to receive His abundant blessings. Our faith can bless our children and their children.

A CALL TO SALVATION:
John 3:16 “For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.”
Romans 10:9-10 9That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved. 10For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness, and with the mouth, confession is made unto salvation.
John 3:5-6 5Jesus answered, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born of water and of the Spirit, he cannot enter into the kingdom of God. 6That which is born of the flesh is flesh, and that which is born of the Spirit is spirit. 7
