In the realm of gospel music, there is a crucial distinction between anointed gospel music and general gospel music. Anointed music is set apart by its holiness, rooted in scripture, and dedicated solely to praising God. It is pure, untainted by secular influences, and focused on glorifying God without distractions.

In contrast, gospel music that lacks scripture or follows popular secular trends does not carry the same spiritual power. It may be uplifting and encourage praise, but it is not necessarily holy or anointed.

Anointed gospel music has the power to break strongholds, kill unholy spirits, and cancel curses. This music often comes in the form of old hymns and instrucmental music that have been sung or moaned to for hundreds of years, such as “Amazing Grace,” “Joy to the World, Psalm 32, and Psalm 23.” These hymns and worship songs have been preserved and passed down through generations, keeping their holiness intact.

While many artists have created their own versions, the sacred essence remains, as these songs are rooted in scripture and honor God. The Bible emphasizes that it is the song, not necessarily the singer, that is important in worship.

In Ephesians 5:19 KJV, it is written: “Speaking to yourselves in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing and making melody in your heart to the Lord.” This scripture highlights the importance of making music that glorifies God from the heart, using holy words.

True anointed music flows from scripture, and through that scripture, God’s power is manifested. As Isaiah 55:11 KJV says, “So shall my word be that goeth forth out of my mouth: it shall not return unto me void. but it shall accomplish that which I please, and it shall prosper in the thing whereto I sent it.””

While general gospel music may encourage praise, it lacks the divine power of holiness that anointed music possesses. Holiness comes from the Word of God, not from the person performing it. As 1 Peter 1:16 KJV commands, “Be ye holy; for I am holy.”

When selecting music, especially during trials, it is crucial to choose songs that are rooted in scripture. God stands by His Word, waiting to perform it (Jeremiah 1:12 KJV). Sing from your heart with gratitude, and let the Word of God be the melody that brings deliverance and peace into your life.

In Psalm 134:2 (KJV), it says, “Lift up your hands in the sanctuary, and bless the Lord.” This verse emphasizes that lifting our hands is a way to bless and honor God in worship. By raising our hands, we are symbolically lifting our hearts to God, showing that we are open to His presence and seeking His blessing.

Additionally, in 1 Timothy 2:8 (KJV), the Apostle Paul instructs: “I will therefore that men pray everywhere, lifting up holy hands, without wrath and doubting.” This encourages believers to lift their hands in prayer and praise, showing purity and faith in God.

Lifting our hands to God not only signifies worship but also demonstrates our dependence on Him, recognizing that He is the source of our strength, guidance, and blessings. It is a physical reminder of our trust in God’s power, much like when Moses lifted his hands in faith during the battle (Exodus 17:8-13).

As we stand and lift our hands in praise, we acknowledge God’s sovereignty and invite His presence into our lives.

Moses Holding Up His Hands to Win the Battle

In Exodus 17:8-13 KJV, the Israelites faced a fierce battle against the Amalekites. Moses, their leader, went to the top of a hill with the staff of God in his hand. As long as Moses held up his hands, the Israelites prevailed. However, when he lowered his hands, the Amalekites began to win.

To ensure victory, Aaron and Hur stood by Moses and helped him keep his hands raised. Through their support, the Israelites won the battle. This story symbolizes the power of perseverance and faith in God’s guidance.

David Playing Music to Soothe Saul’s Spirit

In 1 Samuel 16:14-23 KJV, King Saul was troubled by a distressing spirit, and his servants suggested finding someone to play the harp to soothe him. David, a skilled harpist, was chosen for the task. Whenever the spirit tormented Saul, David would play music, and the evil spirit would leave him. This story illustrates the power of holy music to bring peace and drive away unholy influences.

Three Steps to Select Holy Music:

  • Check for Scripture-Based Lyrics – Ensure the words are rooted in God’s Word and praise Him, rather than reflecting secular ideas or themes.
  • Discern the Spirit Behind the Music – Pay attention to how the music makes you feel. Does it bring peace, draw you closer to God, and inspire worship?
  • Avoid Secular Influences – Choose music that is free from worldly rhythms, dances, or images, focusing solely on glorifying God.

Short ePrayer:

“Dear Lord, guide me as I choose the music I listen to.

Help me to discern what is holy and anointed, filled with Your Word and presence.

Let the songs I listen to bring peace, joy, and a closer connection to You. In Jesus’ name, Amen.”

Reflective or Journal  Question: When you face trials, do the songs you listen to draw you closer to God’s Word and power, or do they simply entertain? How can you incorporate more anointed, scripture-based music into your life to strengthen your faith?
