Overview of The Gospel of John:
The Gospel of John is written by one of Jesus Christ’s disciples, John, the son of Zebedee. This Gospel is 21 Chapters long. John is described as the “Disciple of Whom Jesus loved”. It has been determined by biblical scholars that John wrote The Gospel of John (also known as “According to John”).
It was written around A.D. 80-90, about 50 years after he witnesses Jesus’ earthly ministry under the inspiration of the Holy Spirit and as an eyewitness in composing the gospel. He is not John the Baptist. However, in this book, John the Baptist is discussed.
The Gospel of John explains who Jesus Christ is before creation. It establishes his deity as Creator of the World, The Father (I AM), and is the long-awaited Messiah, the Son of God in the flesh.
Its purpose is to explain that even though Jesus is the Creator and God (I AM), believers are to understand that Jesus is the Son of God that came in the flesh and yet while we were sinners, died for our sins and rose again to become Savior of the World-reconnecting us to God. That is why we pray to the father in Jesus Christ’s name.
Defeating death and sin by the shedding of his blood and life, Jesus gives the gift of everlasting life with repentance. That by believing you may have life in his name (20:31) John 3:16 “For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.”
God is omnipresent meaning he can be in more than one place at the same time. He can be on earth (flesh) and in heaven (spirit) at the same time.
Revelation 19:6 “And I heard as it were the voice of a great multitude, and as the voice of many waters, and as the voice of mighty thundering, saying, Alleluia: for the Lord God omnipotent reigneth.”
Isaiah 9:6 “For unto us a child is born, unto us a son, is given: and the government shall be upon his shoulder: and his name shall be called Wonderful, Counsellor, The mighty God, The everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace.”

Overview of Chapter Nine
In this lesson, students will explore John Chapter 9, where Jesus heals a man born blind. We will discuss the significance of the man’s healing and how it reveals Jesus’ divine authority and compassion. Students will understand the themes of spiritual sight versus blindness, belief, and rejection, as well as the Pharisees’ response to Jesus’ miracle. This lesson will highlight the identity of Jesus as the Son of God and the “Light of the World.”
In John Chapter 9, Jesus heals a man blind from birth to show God’s power and glory. The miracle provokes disbelief among the Pharisees, who refuse to accept the man’s testimony and cast him out. When the man professes his faith in Jesus, Jesus embraces him, revealing that He came to bring both physical and spiritual sight. This chapter highlights Jesus as the Light that exposes truth, showing that faith in Him brings clarity, while rejection leads to spiritual darkness.
Objectives Chapter Nine (You will learn…)
A. Understand the unique nature of Jesus’ miracle on the Sabbath, showcasing God’s power and glory.
B. Recognize that Jesus’ miracles testified to His identity as the “Light of the World” and the Son of God.
C. Explain how Jesus demonstrated His authority to forgive sins.
Outline for Chapter Nine
Jesus’ powers were magnified and glorified by healing a blind man that had been blind from birth on the Sabbath day.
Jesus declares as long as he is in the world, he is the light of the world.
The Pharisees did not believe the man had been blind so they spoke with his parents. They cast the once blind man out.
Jesus found the man and asked him if he believed in the Son of God, and he said that he believed.
The Pharisees question Jesus. Jesus did not forgive them for their unbelief.
Reflection:
Can you recall a time when you were sick, even with just a bad cold, and showed your faith in God’s healing power through prayer?

Highlights of Chapter Nine
Highlights of Gospel of John- Chapter Nine (KJV) Answers to Objectives and quiz.
The miracle that Jesus performed on the sabbath day that no one ever performed before to magnify and glorify the powers of God. John 9: 1-9 KJV
1And as Jesus passed by, he saw a man which was blind from his birth.
2And his disciples asked him, saying, Master, who did sin, this man, or his parents, that he was born blind?
3Jesus answered, Neither hath this man sinned, nor his parents: but that the works of God should be made manifest in him.
4I must work the works of him that sent me, while it is day: the night cometh, when no man can work.
5As long as I am in the world, I am the light of the world.
6When he had thus spoken, he spat on the ground, and made clay of the spittle, and he anointed the eyes of the blind man with the clay,
7And said unto him, Go, wash in the pool of Siloam, (which is by interpretation, Sent.) He went his way therefore, and washed, and came seeing.
8The neighbors therefore, and they which before had seen him that he was blind, said, Is not this he that sat and begged?
9Some said This is he: others said, He is like him: but he said, I am he.
10Therefore said they unto him, How were thine eyes opened?
Why Jesus performed miracles. The work he performed testified that he is the “Light of the World” and the Son of God. John 9: 3-5 KJV
3Jesus answered Neither hath this man sinned, nor his parents: but that the works of God should be made manifest in him.
4I must work the works of him that sent me, while it is day: the night cometh, when no man can work.
5As long as I am in the world, I am the light of the world.
Jesus demonstrated His power to forgive or not to forgive sins. John 9: 31-41 KJV
31Now we know that God heareth not sinners: but if any man be a worshipper of God, and doeth his will, him he heareth.
32Since the world began was it not heard that any man opened the eyes of one that was born blind.
33If this man were not of God, he could do nothing.
34They answered and said unto him, Thou wast altogether born in sins, and dost thou teach us? And they cast him out.
35Jesus heard that they had cast him out; and when he had found him, he said unto him, Dost thou believe on the Son of God?
36He answered and said, Who is he, Lord, that I might believe on him?
37And Jesus said unto him, Thou hast both seen him, and it is he that talketh with thee.
38And he said, Lord, I believe. And he worshipped him.
39And Jesus said, For judgment, I am come into this world, that they which see not might see; and that they which see might be made blind.
40And some of the Pharisees which were with him heard these words, and said unto him, Are we blind also?
41Jesus said unto them, If ye were blind, ye should have no sin: but now ye say, We see; therefore your sin remaineth.
