The Gospel consists of the four books in the New Testament that gives the teachings of Jesus Christ, written by John, Luke, Mark, and Matthew.

Overview of the Gospel of Mark:

Mark “Mark John” is also known as “John” in the Book of Acts.  He is not John the Baptist.  Peter (disciple)  was a mentor to Mark.  Mark did not walk with Jesus but ministered under Peter.  Peter called Mark, his son.  Mark’s work was written in Italy around A.D. 50-70 before the Book of Acts.  Mark’s work is referred to as the “Memoirs of Peter” because he was very close to the disciple Peter and listen to everything Peter said.   The Gospel of Luke borrowed a lot of Mark’s notes.

The Gospel of Mark focuses on the miracles that Jesus performed while spreading his ministry in Galilee.  Mark’s Gospel emphasizes Jesus Christ’s human nature, emotions, and limitations. *Note: This side of Jesus demonstrates that there aren’t any human conditions that he is not aware of and therefore his believers can know that he understands our problems and situations.

Summary of  lesson thirteen and lesson fourteen

Chapter 13:

Jesus foretells the destruction of the temple and the calamities that shall precede it. The temple “temporary plaster” will fall.  There will be many signs and events.  Jesus said, “Many shall come in my name and say they are Christ. Do not believe them”.  The Second Coming – many will flee to the mountains.  Mark 13:14 But when ye shall see the abomination of desolation, spoken of by Daniel the prophet, standing where it ought not, (let him that read understand,) then let them that be in Judaea flee to the mountains:”

Mark 13:15  “And let him that is on the housetop not go down into the house, neither enter therein, to take anything out of his house:”  The Second Coming: No one knows the day or hour, nor angels in heaven, nor the Son, only the father.

Therefore, the duty of believers is to watch: stay prayed up, know the will of God to have victory in the hard times. Give God all the praise, glory, honor, and hallelujah. It is wise to fear God. Proverbs 9:10  “The fear of the LORD is the beginning of wisdom: and the knowledge of the holy is understanding.”

Chapter 14:

The rulers conspired against Jesus by soliciting the help of one of Jesus’s disciples to tell them where Jesus was and help identify him.  A woman puts oil on Jesus’ head to prepare him for burial. He stated that from that moment on all the world will know of her and what she did.  Jesus has a “Passover Supper” with the disciples.  It is often referred to as “The Last Supper.”  It was the last time they would eat together before Jesus’ crucifixion. He commanded believers to imitate the Last Supper until this day.  The dinking of the wine (blood) and eating of the bread (flesh) in remembrance of Jesus and his completed work on the cross.

Jesus went to a garden in Gethsemane to pray.  He asked the father to take the cup he was to bear away from him.  He accepted that this was what he was to do.  He returned from the garden and the disciples were sleeping. He warned them that they should always watch and pray lest they fall into temptation.  The spirit is willing and the flesh is weak.

Judas came with the enemy and saw Jesus. He identified him with a kiss. Jesus was taken to the high priests without a fight.  Many witnesses had different stories against Jesus but none of them agreed with each other.  The high priest said unto Jesus, “Art thou the Christ, the Son of the Blessed?” 62And Jesus said, “I am: and ye shall see the Son of man sitting on the right hand of power, and coming in the clouds of heaven”.  The high priest charged Jesus with blasphemy.  A charge that carries a punishment unto death.

A servant saw Peter and identified him as one of Jesus’ disciples. Peter denied Jesus, even cursing. Jesus was looking at him.  The rooster crowed three times.

Note: sometimes our truest will break our hearts with betrayal. Fear can make people do strange things.  Learn to forgive quickly so you are not filled with bitterness.  Don’t let it break you. Keep going and soon you will remember no more.

Call to salvation

John 3:16  “For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.

Romans 10:9-10  9That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved. 10For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness, and with the mouth, confession is made unto salvation

John 3:5-6  5Jesus answered, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born of water and of the Spirit, he cannot enter into the kingdom of God. 6That which is born of the flesh is flesh, and that which is born of the Spirit is the Spirit.
