The Gospel of John Chapter 5. Overview Chapter 5: Jesus heals a man, on the Sabbath, who had infirmities for 38 years. The Sabbath is a holy day when no work was allowed and death was the penalty if not observed. Healing people was considered work. Jesus declares himself to be the Son of God. Jesus proves himself to be the Son of God by the testimony of John, his works (miracles), and by the witness of the Father in the scriptures (prophecy).
The Gospel of John Chapter 6. Overview Chapter 6 Jesus passes over the Sea of Galilee and feeds five thousand men with five loaves of bread and two fishes. He walks on the sea. The people follow him to Capernaum. He reproves their carnal motives to make him King. He declares himself to be the “Bread of Life”. Many of his disciples walk no more with him. Peter confesses him.
