The Gospel consists of the four books in the New Testament that gives the teachings of Jesus Christ, written by John, Luke, Mark, and Matthew.  Apostle Luke, a Gentile and a physician, wrote this Gospel and the Book of Acts.  Luke’s work is assumed to be written in AD 60-62 during the time disciple Paul was in jail.

His works were dedicated to Theophilus, a Roman dignitary.  Luke gives an ordered account of the events of Jesus’s life but not necessarily in order.  His primary research was eyewitnesses, disciples, and the inspiration of the Holy Spirit.  Luke  gives many accounts of Jesus’s healing ministry because Luke was a physician himself.

Chapter One:  Overview of Chapter One.

Zacharias and Elizabeth were holy people that loved and obeyed God.  Zacharias was a priest that conducted business well. He also had the high honor of lighting the incense in the church when people came to pray.  Zacharias and Elizabeth are up in age and childless because Elizabeth was barren. The angel Gabriel told Zacharias that God was answering his request: he and Elizabeth would conceive a child, and the child would be named John.

Zacharias questioned the angel because of his and Elizabeth’s age. Gabriel punished Zacharias for not believing him. Gabriel told Zacharias he would not speak until the blessing had manifested in his life.

Note: This parable demonstrates how important it is to not speak against or doubt what you asked God for.  We can cancel blessings and the answers to our prayers with our disbelieving conversation.  Gabriel discreetly blessed Zacharias by making him unable to speak so that his blessing would not get canceled. Here we learn to wait patiently and quietly for prayers to be answered. In addition, a delay is not a denial from God as anything is possible with God.  Hebrew 11:6 It is impossible to please God without faith.

Chapter Two:  Overview of Chapter Two.

Mary and Joseph lived in Galilee, in the city of Nazareth.  Both pregnant Mary and her husband, Joseph, were descendants of David. The two went to Judea, into the city of Jerusalem to register and be taxed. Because of the rough long trip, Jesus was born in Bethlehem, about six miles from Jerusalem. This chapter foretells the famous birth of Jesus born in a manger and wrapped in swaddling cloths.

CALL TO SALVATION:

John 3:16  “For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.

Romans 10:9-10  9That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved. 10For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness, and with the mouth, confession is made unto salvation.

John 3:5-6  5Jesus answered, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born of water and of the Spirit, he cannot enter into the kingdom of God. 6That which is born of the flesh is flesh; and that which is born of the Spirit is  the Spirit. (Get Baptized)
