“All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness” (2 Timothy 3:16, KJV).

The Bible is more than just a historical document; it is regarded by many as the living Word of God. For believers, it provides guidance, hope, and truth. What sets the Bible apart is the astonishing accuracy of its prophecies. Scholars and theologians have identified over 2,000 prophecies in the Bible, many of which have already come true.

These fulfilled prophecies include detailed predictions about the birth of Jesus, the rise and fall of nations, and even events in the current state of the world. According to Dr. Hugh Ross, a Christian scholar and scientist, over 300 prophecies specifically regarding Jesus have been fulfilled with remarkable precision.

Understanding and believing the Word of God means trusting in these promises and acknowledging that God, who is all-knowing, predestines events. As the Bible reveals, He can also intervene and change circumstances, which is why the saying “prayer changes things” holds profound truth for the believer. Let’s talk about it with action steps and an eprayer to pray before reading or studying the bible.

The Bible Truth

Alt tag: Is The Bible True?

Jesus emphasized to His disciples that He gives prophecy so that they might believe. In John 13:19 (KJV), He said, “Now I tell you before it come, that, when it is come to pass, ye may believe that I am he.” This shows that the purpose of prophecy is to build faith and confirm God’s Word.

As Isaiah 55:11 (KJV) reminds us, “So shall my word be that goeth forth out of my mouth: it shall not return unto me void, but it shall accomplish that which I please, and it shall prosper in the thing whereto I sent it.”

Supporting Scriptures:

  1. Deuteronomy 18:22 (KJV) states, “When a prophet speaketh in the name of the Lord, if the thing follow not, nor come to pass, that is the thing which the Lord hath not spoken, but the prophet hath spoken it presumptuously: thou shalt not be afraid of him.” God always fulfills His prophetic Word, and it will come to pass according to His will.
  2. Isaiah 9:6-7 (KJV) – “For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given: and the government shall be upon his shoulder: and his name shall be called Wonderful, Counsellor, The mighty God, The everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace. Of the increase of his government and peace there shall be no end…”
  3. Matthew 24:6-8 (KJV) – “And ye shall hear of wars and rumours of wars: see that ye be not troubled: for all these things must come to pass, but the end is not yet. For nation shall rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom: and there shall be famines, and pestilences, and earthquakes, in divers places. All these are the beginning of sorrows.”

“You Err Because You Do Not Know the Scriptures”

Jesus rebuked the religious leaders of His time by saying, “Ye do err, not knowing the scriptures, nor the power of God” (Matthew 22:29, KJV). This same truth applies today. Many do not believe the Bible because they have not delved deeply into its teachings or experienced its transformative power. To understand the prophecies and promises, it is crucial to study the Word and open oneself to the guidance of the Holy Spirit.

A Real-World Example of Prophecy Fulfilled:

In 1948, the rebirth of Israel as a nation fulfilled biblical prophecy. This event is seen as a modern-day miracle. The Bible foretold in Ezekiel 37:21-22 KJV that the Jewish people would return to their homeland. This came to pass, despite overwhelming odds, nearly 2,000 years after Israel ceased to exist as a nation.

Scientific Evidence of Biblical Prophecy:

A study conducted by mathematician Peter Stoner explored the likelihood of even just eight prophecies being fulfilled in one person. The probability was 1 in 10 to the 17th power! Stoner’s work supported that the fulfillment of over 2,000 prophecies in the Bible, particularly surrounding the life of Jesus, is not coincidental but divinely orchestrated.

Prophecies About Jesus:

The Bible clearly prophesied the birth of Jesus, as seen in Micah 5:2 KJV, where it was foretold that the Messiah would be born in Bethlehem. Isaiah’s prophecies also indicated that Jesus would be a light to the nations and that His reign would be everlasting. The Bible has been proven true time and time again through these fulfilled prophecies, and no other religious text has ever achieved such accuracy.

Revelation and Today’s World:

Jesus warned of wars, famines, and earthquakes, referring to them as “the beginning of sorrows” in Matthew 24:6-8 KJV. Many believe that the rise in global conflicts and natural disasters are the signs of the end times. It is a reminder for believers to stay vigilant and prepared for His return.

“Study to Show Thyself Approved”

As Paul wrote to Timothy, “Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth” (2 Timothy 2:15, KJV). Believers are encouraged to diligently study the scriptures to understand God’s plan and live in alignment with His Word.

The Holy Spirit as a Witness:

For those who may struggle to believe the Bible is true, it could be because they haven’t fully experienced its power. John 16:13 KJV reminds us that the Holy Spirit guides us into all truth. The Spirit witnesses to the reality of Jesus, often through personal experiences beyond what is written in the Bible. This witness brings believers closer to understanding God’s truth and promises.

“All Scripture is God-Breathed”

The Bible was written by multiple human authors over a period of about 1,500 years, but believers affirm that it was ultimately inspired by God.

The Bible teaches that every word is inspired by God: “All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness” (2 Timothy 3:16, KJV). The Word of God serves to equip believers, instructing them in truth and righteousness, and revealing the power and love of God through His promises.

Here is an overview of the authorship:

  1. The Old Testament: Written by prophets, kings, and leaders under divine inspiration, including:
    • Moses: Traditionally credited with writing the first five books (Genesis, Exodus, Leviticus, Numbers, Deuteronomy), known as the Torah or Pentateuch.
    • David and Solomon: Wrote parts of Psalms and Proverbs.
    • Prophets like Isaiah, Jeremiah, and Ezekiel: Authored books bearing their names.
    • Other contributors include figures like Ezra, Nehemiah, and Daniel.
  2. The New Testament: Written by Jesus’ disciples and apostles, including:
    • The Gospels (Matthew, Mark, Luke, John): Written by disciples of Jesus or their close associates.
    • Paul: Authored many of the epistles (letters) such as Romans, Corinthians, and Galatians.
    • Other apostles like Peter, James, and John: Contributed letters and the book of Revelation.

While humans physically wrote the Bible, Christians believe that these authors were guided by the Holy Spirit to convey God’s message accurately.

Conclusion:

If you do not yet believe the Bible is true, it may be because you haven’t taken the time to read it or experience its transformative power. The Bible prophesied the birth of Jesus and foretold events that continue to unfold today. Let the Holy Spirit guide you, opening your heart and mind to God’s eternal truth.

Three Action Steps on How to Study the Bible: Start with the Gospel

  1. Start with the Gospels (Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John): Begin your study with the Gospels, where you’ll learn about the life, teachings, and miracles of Jesus Christ. These books lay the foundation for understanding the purpose of the Bible and God’s plan for salvation.
  2. Pray for Guidance: Before each study session, ask God for wisdom and understanding through the Holy Spirit. James 1:5 (KJV) says, “If any of you lack wisdom, let him ask of God, that giveth to all men liberally, and upbraideth not; and it shall be given him.” Prayer opens your heart and mind to what God wants to reveal to you.
  3. Take Notes and Reflect: As you read, write down important verses, key lessons, and questions that arise. Reflect on how the teachings apply to your life. Meditating on the scriptures helps deepen your understanding and retention of God’s Word.

Reflective Question:

How well am I applying what I have learned from the Bible to my daily life, and is it bringing me closer to God?
