Daily Word: Friends the Enduring Bond: Friendship in the Eyes of God

John 15:14 KJV  Ye are my friends, if ye do whatsoever I command you.

Friendship holds a special place in God’s heart. He sees friendships as reflections of His own love, a testament to the power of human connection and the beauty of shared experiences.  It is in the company of true friends that we find solace, support, and a sense of belonging. Friendship, in its purest form, is a reflection of God’s love, a testament to the power of human connection and the beauty of shared experiences. Each of us grow through our friendships.

Proverbs 27:17 KJV  “Iron sharpeneth iron; so a man sharpeneth the countenance of his friend.”

God, in His infinite wisdom, values friendships that foster growth, encourage kindness, and inspire acts of service. He delights in witnessing His children find solace and strength in the company of true friends, those who uplift them in times of need and celebrate their successes with heartfelt joy. True friendship, in God’s eyes, is not merely about companionship or shared interests; it’s a bond rooted in mutual respect, unwavering support, and genuine care for one another’s well-being.

The Bible has many verses that speak to the importance of friendship. In Proverbs 17:17, we are reminded that “a friend loves at all times, and a brother is born for adversity.” True friendship is not confined to pleasant times; it endures through life’s challenges, offering a steadfast presence and a listening ear.

Jesus elevates friendship to a profound level, stating, John 15:12-14 KJV  12This is my commandment, That ye love one another, as I have loved you. 13Greater love hath no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends. 14Ye are my friends, if ye do whatsoever I command you.  John 13:35 KJV  “By this shall all men know that ye are my disciples, if ye have love one to another.”  These verses highlights the ultimate expression of friendship: sacrificing oneself for the sake of another. Such love is not based on self-interest or personal gain; it is rooted in a deep and selfless care for the other person’s well-being.

Ecclesiastes 4:9-10 emphasizes the power of friendship in providing support and encouragement:  Ecclesiastes 4:9-10  KJV   9Two are better than one; because they have a good reward for their labour. 10For if they fall, the one will lift up his fellow: but woe to him that is alone when he falls; for he hath not another to help him up”  True friends are there to lift us up when we fall and help us navigate life’s challenges. They are a source of strength and resilience, reminding us that we are not alone.

God’s love for friendship extends beyond human connections; He Himself desires to be our closest friend, a confidant who knows our deepest thoughts, fears, and hopes. He invites us to enter into a relationship with Him, to share our burdens and joys, our doubts and dreams. In His eyes, we are not just His creations; we are His beloved companions, His cherished friends.  Jesus gives his Believers the Holy Spirit as a helper, teacher, and comforter.

After Jesus rose from the grave and appeared to the disciples, a transformation took place in power. Jesus no longer asked the Father for the Holy Ghost to be sent but blew upon the disciples His spirit.  The Holy Spirit of God.

John 20:21-22 KJV    21Then said Jesus to them again, Peace be unto you: as my Father has sent me, even so send I you. 22And when he said this, he breathed on them, and said unto them, Receive ye the Holy Ghost:

John 15:12-14 KJV  12This is my commandment, That ye love one another, as I have loved you. 13Greater love hath no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends. 14Ye are my friends, if ye do whatsoever I command you.

Finally, These are just a few examples of the many verses in the Bible that speak to the importance of friendship.  God values friendships that foster growth, encourage kindness, and inspire acts of service. He delights in seeing His children find solace and strength in the company of true friends, those who uplift them in times of need, and celebrate their successes with heartfelt joy.
