Daily Word: “Overcome Depression and Distressed Spirits: A Christian Guide to Healing and Holiness” 3-Step Action Plan

Feeling down or burdened in your spirit is something many people experience. Some people hear lying voices.  Sometimes, it feels like there’s a cloud over your heart, making it hard to find joy.

This can be a sign of distressed spirits or depression. Sometimes, when people are struggling with distressed spirits or depression, it’s a sign that they need to reexamine their relationship with God.  John 14:15  KJV  “If ye love me, keep my commandments.

In the Bible, the Apostle Paul spoke about temporarily delivering people to Satan so they would learn not to blaspheme God. In 1 Timothy 1:20 KJV, Paul mentions Hymenaeus and Alexander, saying, “whom I have delivered unto Satan, that they may learn not to blaspheme.

” This was a severe form of discipline, meant to bring the person to repentance and back into a right relationship with God. It shows us that God’s discipline can be a tool to correct our paths and draw us closer to Him.

In 1 Samuel 16:23 KJV , we learn about King Saul, who was troubled by an evil spirit. “And it came to pass, when the evil spirit from God was upon Saul, that David took a harp, and played with his hand: so Saul was refreshed, and was well, and the evil spirit departed from him.”

This verse shows us how holy music and praise can lift a troubled spirit. When David played his harp, the music soothed Saul, and the evil spirit left him.  Evil spirits or curses cannot exist around holiness.  It kills them. This is one reason why God commands that we praise him from our heart.  It is to restore our souls.

Psalms 23:3 KJV  “He restoreth my soul: he leadeth me in the paths of righteousness for his name’s sake.”

2 Corinthians 10:5 KJV  “Casting down imaginations, and every high thing that exalteth itself against the knowledge of God, and bringing into captivity every thought to the obedience of Christ;”

God disciplines those He loves (Hebrews 12:6 KJV ). When we face hardships, it may be God’s way of getting our attention, urging us to stop sinning and start following His commands. Sin separates us from God, and unrepented sin can lead to feelings of distress and depression.

That’s why repentance is so important. We need to ask God and the Holy Spirit to reveal the sins we are committing, so we can repent and turn away from them. God hates sin, but the good news is that the blood of Jesus erases sins from our lives. When we accept Jesus, we are forgiven.

To overcome distressed spirits and depression, it’s not just about stopping sin but also about actively pursuing holiness. When we praise God, speak scripture, and refrain from sin, we invite the Holy Spirit to dwell in us.

This makes us immune to the attacks of distressed spirits and curses. Psalm 119:11 KJV says, “Thy word have I hid in mine heart, that I might not sin against thee.” Keeping God’s Word in our hearts helps us stay on the right path.

Believing in God for healing is key. Sometimes, God may lead us to seek help from a professional. He has blessed doctors and counselors with wisdom to help us recognize things that might be causing our distress—whether it’s certain foods, habits, or past experiences like accidents or lost of loved ones.

Even when we seek professional help, it is still God who is working to heal us.

In Psalm 34:17-18 KJV, the Bible says, “The righteous cry, and the Lord heareth, and delivereth them out of all their troubles. The Lord is nigh unto them that are of a broken heart; and saveth such as be of a contrite spirit.” This reminds us that God is close to those who are hurting and will deliver them from their troubles.

In conclusion, overcoming depression and distressed spirits requires us to evaluate our relationship with God, repent from our sins, and live a life of holiness. Through praise, scripture, and the power of Jesus’ blood, we can find peace and freedom from distress.

3-Step Action Plan to Overcome Depression and Distressed Spirits

  1. Seek God’s Guidance and Repent: Start by asking God and the Holy Spirit to reveal any sins in your life. Repent of these sins and ask for forgiveness through the blood of Jesus. Remember that repentance is the first step toward healing and restoring your relationship with God.
  2. Engage in Holy Praise and Scripture: Fill your life with holy music and praise. Singing songs that honor God or listening to scripture-based music can uplift your spirit. Meditate on Bible verses, like Psalm 34:17-18, to remind yourself of God’s promise to be near to those with a broken heart.
  3. Live a Holy Life and Refrain from Sin: Commit to living a holy life by following God’s commands. Refrain from sin and actively pursue holiness. Keep God’s Word in your heart, and allow it to guide your actions. This will help you become immune to the attacks of distressed spirits and depression.  ” Jesus is Lord and the Devil must flee”.   James 4:7 KJV.  “Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you.”
