Daily Word: 8 Biblical Principles That Drive Real Success: Learn, Serve, and Build Wealth
In watching the You Tube sensation, Diary of a CEO featuring Codie Sanchez, I could not help but notice that success in both business and life is rooted in timeless Biblical principles. Working hard, loving others, and seeking wise counsel, following God’s Word leads to long-term fulfillment.
Codie Sanchez and Steven Bartlett teach in their respective fields, true success comes from serving others, building relationships, and continuously learning. I don’t know Codie or Steven religious affiliations. However, the principles are the same as other successful business people as Jesus teachings. This author will attempt to demonstrate this concept below.
Jesus Christ exemplifies these principles, demonstrating that when we follow His teachings, we can achieve not just material success but also spiritual abundance and lasting impact.
Success is built on enduring principles that have proven themselves over time. Entrepreneurs like Codie Sanchez as seen on Diary of a CEO focuses on service, building relationships, and strategic action, particularly through what she calls “boring businesses”—small, often overlooked service industries like senior care centers, laundromats, and lawn care that generate steady cash flow.
Codie’s approach shows that true success lies in finding value where others do not and building wealth through hard work and smart relationships. I read a story many years ago, when a man looking to make money, developed a farm just growing potatoes. It was wildly successful. Simple but of value.
Similarly, Steven Bartlett’s very popular, The Diary of a CEO podcast brings forward stories of leaders who emphasize personal growth, resilience, and building connections. The path to success, as shown by these influential figures, is rooted in strong relationships, personal development, and serving others.
These business principles closely align with Biblical teachings. The Bible consistently advocates for diligent work, loving others, and strategic planning for success. Jesus Christ serves as the ultimate example of leadership through service. Despite having no material wealth, Jesus built a global movement over 2000 years ago that endures to this day.
Jesus developed strong allies in His disciples- support for the mission of teaching the Gospel, teaching them the importance of serving others, spreading His message of love, and building relationships. His legacy continues to grow as churches worldwide honor Him through worship and Communion.
Jesus’ teachings have also inspired psychological programs like the 12-step programs, helping millions overcome personal struggles through the values of love, forgiveness, and perseverance. Following these Biblical principles—working hard, loving others, seeking wise counsel, and building a good name—leads not only to any business success but also to spiritual fulfillment.
Key Biblical Principles for Success: Ecclesiastes 7:12 KJV “For wisdom is a defence, and money is a defence: but the excellency of knowledge is, that wisdom giveth life to them that have it.”
Work or Don’t Eat (2 Thessalonians 3:10, KJV)
Hard work is essential for success, as the Bible teaches: 2 Thessalonians 3:10 KJV “For even when we were with you, this we commanded you, that if any would not work, neither should he eat.” ” Codie Sanchez’s emphasis on diligence mirrors this, showing that working as if you are working for God sets a higher standard of excellence. There is no substitute for work. (Colossians 3:23 KJV). “And whatsoever ye do, do it heartily, as to the Lord, and not unto men;”
Love God and Others More Than Yourself – Let your business product or service give others value. (Matthew 22:37-40, KJV)
Jesus’ greatest commandment is to love God and others. Codie teaches building relationships and serving others before seeking personal gain, much like Jesus taught us to love and prioritize others, building lasting, successful connections. Matthew 22:387-40, KJV 37Jesus said unto him, Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind. 38This is the first and great commandment. 39And the second is like unto it, Thou shalt love thy neighbor as thyself. 40On these two commandments hang all the law and the prophets.
Success in a Multitude of Counselors (Proverbs 15:22, KJV)
Success comes from gathering advice from others. Jesus surrounded Himself with disciples, while Codie and Steven emphasize learning from mentors and allies. Wise counsel ensures steady growth. Proverbs 15:22 KJV “Without counsel purposes are disappointed: but in the multitude of counsellors they are established.”
A Good Name is Priceless (Proverbs 22:1, KJV)
Reputation matters. Jesus, known for His integrity and love, is still honored today. He often stated that leaders of his church should have good reputations. In business, a good name opens doors and creates lasting success.
Proverbs 22:1, KJV 1A good name is rather to be chosen than great riches, and loving favor rather than silver and gold. 2The rich and poor meet together: the LORD is the maker of them all
Make Friends (Proverbs 18:24, KJV)
Relationships are key to success. As Codie emphasizes making allies, the Bible teaches that true friends support and uplift each other, multiplying success and growth.
Jesus created disciples for several key reasons, all central to His mission of spreading the Gospel and establishing His teachings throughout the world: To Spread His Message, To Teach and Train, To Build a Community of Faith, To Model Service and Leadership. All businesses employees do all of these things or the company large or small will suffer bad Yelp reviews. Word of mouth is reported as the number 1 way to get business.
Proverbs 18:24 “A man that hath friends must shew himself friendly: and there is a friend that sticks closer than a brother.” [Jesus].
Pay Tithes for Supernatural Blessings (Malachi 3:10, KJV)
Tithing invites God’s favor. By honoring God with our resources, we unlock supernatural blessings beyond what money can buy. Codie has a rule give 10x more before asking for help.
Malachi 3:10 KJV “Bring ye all the tithes into the storehouse, that there may be meat in mine house, and prove me now herewith, saith the LORD of hosts, if I will not open you the windows of heaven, and pour you out a blessing, that there shall not be room enough to receive it.
Make a Plan and Budget and Work the Plan (Proverbs 16:3, KJV)
Success requires intentional planning. Codie advocates for making intentional choices and following through, just as the Bible says to commit your plans to the Lord for success. Your plans include a budget-count the cost.
Proverbs 16:3 KJV “Commit thy works unto the LORD, and thy thoughts shall be established.” If you need help with your business ask God.
James 1:5 KJV “If any of you lack wisdom, let him ask of God, that giveth to all men liberally, and upbraided not; and it shall be given him.”
Proverbs 22:7 KJV “The rich ruleth over the poor, and the borrower is servant to the lender.”
Luke 14:28 KJV “For which of you, intending to build a tower, sitteth not down first, and counteth the cost, whether he have sufficient to finish it?”
Save with interest and Invest.
In Matthew 25:14-30 (KJV), Jesus tells the Parable of the Talents, where a master entrusts his servants with money before going on a journey. Two servants invest wisely and double the amount, while a third buries it, earning nothing. Upon the master’s return, the first two are rewarded, but the third is punished for wasting the opportunity.
The parable teaches the importance of investing and managing resources wisely. God expects us to use what we are given effectively, and failing to do so can result in loss and missed opportunities.
Note: A rule of thumb that has worked for many non-accountant successful people retired have agreed that their rule of thumb worked: spend half and save half with interest. Many economic advisor are now suggesting investing in gold and silver because it backs the US dollar. The government buys gold and it is forecasted the government will start buying silver to back the dollar. Make sure you buy good gold and silver and do your research. A man or woman can ask others for silver or gold jewely as gifts for birthdays and Christmas.
Follow Up with Gratitude (Philippians 4:6, KJV)
Gratitude attracts more blessings. Both in business and life, thanking God for progress leads to continued success and opens doors for future opportunities. Have integrity in your business and give value and follow up with Gratitude. ” Thank You” . Attitude determines your Altitude-how high up you go.
Philippians 4:6 KJV “Be careful for nothing; but in every thing by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known unto God.”
In conclusion, the Bible offers timeless principles that lead to lasting success in business and life. Following God’s Word—working hard, loving others, seeking counsel, and building strong relationships—creates a foundation of integrity and a product of value for success that endures. Whether you are saved or not, as Codie Sanchez’s business approach shows, giving value, learning continuously, and serving others are not only keys to financial freedom but also reflect God’s path to true success.
