Daily Word: 1 John 1:9 KJV Explained: Embracing God’s Promise of Forgiveness
The verse 1 John 1:9 (KJV) says, “If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.” This scripture teaches us that God is always ready to forgive when we admit our wrongs. This forgiveness is not just a feeling—it’s a promise from God that our mistakes and sins will be washed away when we confess them honestly.
The Story of the Prodigal Son
The story of the Prodigal Son in Luke 15 KJV shows how God’s forgiveness works. A young man asks his father for his inheritance early, leaves home, and spends everything he has on wild living. When he runs out of money and is desperate, he decides to go back home and confess to his father.
The son feels ashamed, but when he arrives, his father welcomes him with open arms and forgives him completely. This parable shows that, like the father in the story, God is always waiting for us to come back and receive forgiveness.
Supporting Scriptures
Psalm 103:12 (KJV) says, “As far as the east is from the west, so far hath he removed our transgressions from us.” This means God completely removes our sins when we confess. Isaiah 1:18 (KJV) also reassures us, “Though your sins be as scarlet, they shall be as white as snow.” Both verses remind us of God’s great mercy and the fresh start He gives to anyone who truly seeks forgiveness.
