Christian Poetry: Love and Duty
John 15:11-14 KJV 11These things have I spoken unto you, that my joy might remain in you, and that your joy might be full. 12This is my commandment, That ye love one another, as I have loved you. 13Greater love hath no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends. 14Ye are my friends, if ye do whatsoever I command you.

Love and Duty
(public domain poem edited by Angela Clark)
Stern Duty took her iron pen
and wrote her strict decrees in blood.
Obey my laws you Son of Men
for I alone am good.
Despise the pleasant things on earth
And pass affection quickly by
For human joys are little worth
And fleshly love will go bye
A voice answered from above
The way is long, the light is dim
But woe to those proud souls that love
Their duty more than HIM
Who by his own example showed
A life of love without a flaw
Duty may preach a perfect code
But love fulfills the law

A CALL TO SALVATION:
John 3:16 “For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.”
Romans 10:9-10 9That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved. 10For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness, and with the mouth, confession is made unto salvation.
John 3:5-6 5Jesus answered, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born of water and of the Spirit, he cannot enter into the kingdom of God. 6That which is born of the flesh is flesh, and that which is born of the Spirit is spirit. 7
