The disciples did not have to pray in Jesus name at the time because Jesus was with them. The Holy Spirit would not come upon them until he left. After he transcended to heaven, Jesus sent the Holy Spirit upon them. In addition, in the Gospel of John, Jesus did advise the disciples, that if they asked for anything in his name he would do it and if they asked the father anything in his name (Jesus) , he would do it.
